Baby groups

Hello everyone,

Are you still taking your baby to baby groups during the Coronavirus crisis? We have 3 regular baby groups throughout the week and don’t know what to do for the best. My baby is 18 weeks old.

My kids are much older but I really, really wouldn’t if i had a baby. I’m in Ireland and all my kids’ activities have been cancelled but if they hadn’t, they wouldn’t be going.

firstimemamma · 15/03/2020 11:11

My baby is 19 months old and we are still going to 4 groups a week as usual Smile

SlimGin · 15/03/2020 11:12

I'm debating this too. I have an 18month old so very hard to keep her cooped up as she doesn't understand and has short attention span. If she were older I think it would be easier to keep her focused on activities at home. She is also going to the childminders whilst I work, so will have lots of contact there, so keeping her off groups would be a bit pointless.
I think with an 18week old it's a bit easier to entertain them at home as they don't get a bored and restless

YouSetTheTone · 15/03/2020 11:15

I really wouldn’t! Social distancing will really help flatten the curve of this outbreak.

YouSetTheTone · 15/03/2020 11:19

Ps this article has graphics that show how social distancing/ reducing contact helps. Even when you have to go to work/ take children to childminders etc the times you CAN reduce context still help.

Thanks ladies. Think it’s probably best to stay home.

We are staying home with 5 month old and keeping DD of nursery! Everyone says its just the elderly that get ill but look at the mother and baby down south in two different hospitals because of their condition! Don't believe anyone anymore!

ash0811 · 15/03/2020 15:33

Interesting that you’re staying home. Lots of my friends with children are carrying on as normal

Is he at the stage he puts everything in his mouth? Is he mobile yet? To be honest at 18 weeks if he isn't doing either of those yet I would go (for my sake), it probably won't be long until they are cancelled and I'd make the most of them. They will probably be quieter anyway. If though it's somewhere with no access to sinks and soap, and at the crawling and chewy phase I would skip it.

Butterwhy · 15/03/2020 15:36

Sorry I really thought I saw DS in the title but see you haven't said, apologies.

Wineislifex · 15/03/2020 15:36

Our sensory class has been cancelled for tomorrow, says not corona related but who knows...

DaffodilSunshine · 15/03/2020 15:39

All the children's centre groups and nct groups have been cancelled around here anyway. The paid courses are still running currently but with very strict rules about not attending with any illness and hygiene

Purplequalitystreet · 15/03/2020 15:40

One of our groups has been cancelled. I've had an email from another to say that basically, when the schools close so will they. I'm going until they close. We'll be stuck in the house for long enough. I want to get out while we still can

Caspianberg · 15/03/2020 15:42

I wouldn't.
The quicker people start distancing themselves, the quicker this will die down. If people keep socialising as usual its just going to put heat in the fire as it were and escalate more than it needs to.

An 18 week old will not miss out staying away from playgroups for say 3 months.

CathyandHeathcliff · 15/03/2020 15:43

Yes, we will be for now. I need it for my mental health too.

CathyandHeathcliff · 15/03/2020 15:44

He’s still at nursery twice a week as I’m working,so won’t make much difference at the moment.

NutterPotter · 15/03/2020 15:46

I have a 15week old. We will not be going to play groups but I make sure to take him for a walk through a quiet park in the mornings so he is not cooped up

cbeebiessavedmylifee · 15/03/2020 15:50

My DS has asthma so I’m not risking it

Cremebrule · 15/03/2020 15:55

I wouldn’t with a newborn. I’m a bit hesitant with my 12m old as she is in the put everything in the mouth stage and I’ve got some serious doubts as to whether we’ll be able to start nursery as planned given the likelihood of being excluded. I’m carrying on as normal with my 3 year old. The germs from nursery won’t really be any different from activities.

MadeForThis · 15/03/2020 16:29

I wouldn't. Why risk it?
