How will your dp/DH keep entertained?

Dk20 · 15/03/2020 09:59

Were in Ireland.
The kids are off school till the end of the month and we've been told to limit social interactions outside of the house.
The kids will be fine and I will be able to keep them entertained but dp - that's another story.
It's not even 10am and hes asked me what were going to do today. He needs to be kept going the whole time.
What will your dh's be doing?

He asked you what you’re doing today? Is he 6?

My DH will be continuing to work from home, as he has been doing for the last three weeks.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/03/2020 10:03

This is bizarre! He's a grown adult! Surely he has ways of keeping himself entertained? Why does this need to preoccupy you for even a second?

Qasd · 15/03/2020 10:03

Can you give him a project. We are in England so not at that stage but he has already said he will re decorate and sort etc the spare room if he ends up having to stay home as he is exactly the same and always in the go (he will be working from home too so between that and the spare room it should Keep him busy!)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/03/2020 10:05

He can give himself a project! 😂

I can't be the only woman not married to a four year old.

DinosApple · 15/03/2020 10:07

We're not in Ireland, but DH is in the garden all the time it's not raining. He also doesn't do sitting still.

Could he do some garden projects?

Dk20 · 15/03/2020 10:10

Usually on Sundays we will be visiting family or have errands to run. He works away from home and gets back on Saturday evenings, so it is usual that he would ask me what our plans are and what needs to be done on a Sunday.
@qasd we will have to make a list of things around the house that need to be done, thanks for the idea.

I'm predicting mine DHs days will go Work-Eat-Sleep-Work-eat-sleep etc.

Otherwise he has normal relaxing pursuits... Lego, computer games, beer brewing, polishing his bike...

DonnaDarko · 15/03/2020 10:14

Is he not capable of independent thought?

Not in ireland, but DP hates being stuck indoors so I'm almost afraid of a lockdown as he will be a miserable bastard.

However we can both work from home whilst DS runs rings around us.

If he can't, then

Gardening
DIY
video games
Binge watch everything on Netflix
Get Kindle unlimited and read everything

😊

Dk20 · 15/03/2020 10:15

@DinosApple yes it would be a good chance to get the garden tidied up!
@aroundtheworld dp doesn't have any relaxing hobbies - he seems to be on the go the whole time so having to stay at home will be painful for him. Thanks for the ideas.

Dh will be studying, doing some DIY, hanging with the kids, watching telly. The usual really

Hairwizard · 15/03/2020 10:19

Im just realising theres probs going to be alot of divorce applications after all this if we end up in a lockdoen situ.
Dp home today as all club/county training and fixtures cancelled.
Already getting grumpy cos he cant get peace to work. While the physical work in gym winding down his paperwork has massively jumped as all 8 teams plus county panel and clients all need training plans devised to do at home.

Ready to kill him tbh.

BertieBotts · 15/03/2020 10:24

DH is prob delighted as he is an introvert. Although he's quaking a bit at the prospect of being stuck with DC 24/7 including for trying to work.

TokyoSushi · 15/03/2020 10:26

We're in the UK so not in isolation yet but we've decided that if/when it does happen we'll do a big shop in B&Q and do some decorating!

Rainbowqueeen · 15/03/2020 10:28

Give him the job of entertaining the kids
Also taking over most of the household chores

Squigean · 15/03/2020 10:35

Finger painting?

He could make a den, then have a bit of quite time in there with his favourite picture book.

He could also help you make meals, ideal age to encourage an interest in cooking. You'll have to use your common sense if you'll trust him with a sharp knife.

How about helping you clean? Do you think he's co-ordinated enough to do that?

SpaghettiSharon · 15/03/2020 10:37

Luckily I married an adult male with the power of independent thought and a very hands on role with the kids. I have no concerns at all on that score.

melissasummerfield · 15/03/2020 10:40

How intelligent women tolerate men like this is beyond me Hmm

transformandriseup · 15/03/2020 10:42

My DH is hoping for time off so he can do Gardening and DIY.

undead · 15/03/2020 10:45

I would explode if dh would ask me what could he do. Kids will be asking that enough for sure.

GetTheSprinkles · 15/03/2020 10:51

My DH would be the same. We're in UK and he's acting like nothing is happening; currently at the gym then going to do a normal food shop. He went for a night out in Friday! If we are told to isolate I dont think he'll handle it well. Even on his days off from work he's always go-go-go.
I'm thinking: YouTube workout videos , playtime with baby (16 weeks old), baking, cooking fancy meals, sort the garage out, sort our clothes out, weed the garden and a good declutter. Evenings will be board games, cards, Skype with relatives and Netflix

FamilyOfAliens · 15/03/2020 10:55

How would he cope if he lived alone? Would he just come home from work and stare into space all weekend?

It would drive me nuts being stuck inside with such a passive person.

SuitablyDull · 15/03/2020 11:05

I will probably kick him out to finish sorting garden...and dump 2 year old on him while I get our bedroom sorted as have baby 2 due in May so need to get things sorted so there's space for the crib before baby arrives.
My DH would probably ask this. Once given a job he's fine but independent thought is difficult for him. I blame his mother.

Langsdestiny · 15/03/2020 11:53

Yes blame the women for useless men.

TARSCOUT · 15/03/2020 11:58

DP can't work from home so likely play xbox, work in garage, work on cars, work on bikes, work on model trains. I predict bugger all will be finished by time normality returns. I will WFH, train dogs, clean house, watch tv.
