Husband symptoms

So my husband has:

  • Fever (peaked at 38.7 yesterday but is being controlled pretty well with paracetamol)
  • Joint pain
  • Bad headache
  • Nausea (vomited a little yesterday, none today so far)
  • NO cough
  • He sounded a bit breathless overnight but seems ok this morning
  • Bit sniffly/sinuses blocked.
  • Generally feeling ill/unable to get out of bed.

We're attempting to isolate him as best we can, rang 111 for advice as instructed by the website but got cut off after 30 minutes on hold Hmm

Does anyone know how likely this is to be CV? We haven't knowingly been in contact with any confirmed cases or travelled anywhere further than work and the supermarket recently (we're in England). I suppose its kind of a moot point since the advice for him is the same anyway, but I'm a bit worried about going into work and potentially spreading it myself since we'd spent several days together immediately before he got the symptoms.

DS also still has a cough that he's had for about a fortnight, we didn't isolate him because it wasn't the advice at the time and it was a productive cough, but feels like we'll be judged for him being out and about now!

Could be CV could also be flu, type A influenza is doing the rounds. Either way you just need him and you and all your family to self isolate now as per the guidelines. I know it's worrying but try not to call 111 unless you really need to.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 15:24

It could be something else, but equally it could be CV. Without a test it's impossible to know but, like Ella says, all you can really do is follow the advice given to isolate as a family. Flowers

You only need to ring 111 if you are struggling to managing your symptoms or if the have not gone by day 8.

RedRed9 · 19/03/2020 15:26

It doesn’t really matter what it is. He has a fever so the whole household needs to self isolate.

Selfsettling3 · 19/03/2020 15:28

Your not allowed to go into work. You need to isolate for 14 days.

OhLook · 19/03/2020 15:29

None of you can leave the house for 14 days. Obviously unless anything gets worse.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 18:28

You can leave the house for exercise but you must keep away from other people.

Selfsettling3 · 19/03/2020 19:33

That’s for social distancing not self isolating.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 19:37

Wrong. It is part of the Government advice on self-isolating.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 19:40

Government Advice:
If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus, then household members must stay at home and not leave your house for 14 days (more information in the ending self-isolation section below). If possible, you should not go out even to buy food or other essentials, other than exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in your house became ill.

Selfsettling3 · 19/03/2020 20:19

The document is not clear it also says that you can’t go out for exercise. The aim of isolation is to protect others and ease stress on the NHS.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 20:24

It's perfectly clear. You can go out for exercise as long as you stay away from people. By doing that you are helping to protect you own health -mental as well as physical - and the health of others.

People should not undermine the official advice by trying to panic people into believing they are not allowed out.

Selfsettling3 · 19/03/2020 20:49

Except is always says...

Husband symptoms
LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 20:56

Yes, that's the same as I quoted above. So it clearly states that you can leave the house for exercise as long as you continue to isolate yourself from others. That is reasonable and practical, telling people they cannot leave the house at all under any circumstances is not.

LittleRootie · 19/03/2020 21:15

Also, official NHS advice on self-isolation:

You'll need to stay at home if you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or live with someone who does.

Staying at home means you should:

not go to work, school or public areas
not use public transport or taxis
not have visitors, such as friends and family, in your home
not go out to buy food or collect medicine – order them by phone or online, or ask someone else to drop them off at your home
You can use your garden, if you have one. You can also leave the house to exercise – but stay at least 2 metres away from other people
