I’m not a behavioural scientist (whether economist or psychologist) but I’m really confused about why we keep being told that we wouldn’t be able to comply with stringent measures. Surely if you want people to do something that is difficult or unpleasant you tell them that you can do it, and you provide examples of people who are doing it?
I’m also not sure about the wisdom of telling people that everyone will definitely get it. I don’t know why that is the case from a scientific/epidemiological point of view as if it were completely impossible to stop the spread why would we take any measures at all? Surely it just fosters a sense of helplessness and apathy and makes people less likely to do anything?
