Apparently not all of science is behind the government's policy

That's the scary thing. The policy of "herd immunity" works great on paper but it's asking parents to, effectively, knowingly expose their children and themselves to Coronavirus.
We're, statistically, at the same place with numbers of infections and deaths where other countries took stronger measures.
They're aiming at immunization through exposure as they have no vaccine. They've also no been clear with advice for parents with kids with things like asthma etc, who would be severely affected by being infected with a virus that targets the lungs.
If hundreds of scientists are calling for tougher measures and Boris Johnson states that he is "following the science" then you've got to ask whose science he's following and why it's more valid than the experts calling for increased measures.
I object to my kids being used as a social Petrie dish as part of a nation wide science experiment.

Me too. I'm pregnant with a toddler in nursery. Even if I wasn't pregnant, I still don't think I'd be sending him in. I was talking to one of the assistants on Friday and she said it was ok for kids to go in with a temperature. Add this to the fact that nurseries have apparently been told by the government that they don't have to tell other parents if a child there has it, or close down, or even deep clean.

I can see why they think it's a grand idea to use our kids as a propagator for the 60%, seeing as they don't seem to be badly affected by it, so far. But our kids come home to families at the end of the day, and those families could include health workers and carers going out to the elderly, as well as people who are immunocompromised.
