I don’t get paid while I am off work. Sorry if this has been asked before but what happens if there is an enforced shut down of school and then say a bigger shut down similar to Spain and Italy?

In a normal country like Italy, France or Spain the government steps in and ensures you still get paid.

With the psychopaths in charge of our government I imagine you'd be left to fend for yourself. Business profits over people, every time

I want to know this too, I work in a non-essential shop, if I don’t work I don’t get paid, what will happen if my workplace is forced to close but I’m not ill?

This is a major worry for me, if I don't get paid I can't pay my rent or any other bills. What happens then? I can't be the only one in this position? Who do we turn to get help?

Yeah it's a lot of people's worry , same with closing schools i won't be able to work .
I've asked the question at work to no answer yet . I'm hoping they have a contingency plan , I'm happy to work from home if I'm given a laptop .

I can’t work from home, I’ve looked up the government website it says you can claim £29 a day for just 5 days during a temporary lay off, that’s it, after that nothing, I’m concerned

My work has confirmed if you have to be off for school closure- parental leave (unpaid). If off because of self isolating- full pay. If off because of office closure- full pay

I'm starting a new job tomorrow as a temp, I'm assuming i won't get anything. I'm not eligible for any benefits and already on the brink. It's going to be very difficult times indeed when the schools shut down.

I would get SSP for self isolation so I would have to go down that route, or I will have no income

Actually that wouldn’t work if I had been laid off, crap

My DP is self employed... he is already losing money. I imagine we wont be able to cover our bills by the end of the month. I dread to think about next month. No help for the self employed at all. I'm extremely worried about this. Yet I read this morning that virgin airways are to ask the government for £7 billion to help airlines throughout this period. How about the Government help individuals first (PAYE and self employed ) and offer some sort of grant to people in need of help. By the way I have no idea how this would work but I'm not paid a six figure salary to work it out either...feeling very anxious today.

It’s a real worry. I doubt my employer can afford to pay 100 people if the place shuts down.
