Nappies wipes and milk?

inthemoment1990 · 14/03/2020 20:31

I have a LO who is still in nappies , needs wiping and needs milk. What the fuck do I do if I can’t get any? My DH has just gone out to get us some wipes and nappies and so far no wipes and a few packs of nappies and one carton of milk. I don’t care about me , I can go without and wipe my arse with a leaf. But my poor DS who is fully dependant on me wiping his him changing his nappy and feeding him may also have to have a leaf.. anyone else have this fear ?

Amazon appears to have stock?

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 14/03/2020 20:34

Wait a week until people have got bored of panic buying and the shops restock and get some then.

thunderthighsohwoe · 14/03/2020 20:35

Could you get hold of some reusable nappies and wipes via FB Marketplace or similar? I’ve bought an extra pack of Pampers for overnight, but if it comes to it we’ll use our small reusable stash full time and just wash daily.

Re milk, I’d keep nipping to the shops early in the morning to get enough for your child.

We have stockpiled nothing apart from about a week’s worth of UHT milk and toddler meals for DD15mo, plus her asthma meds.

Hercwasonaroll · 14/03/2020 20:35

Order some cheeky wipes and start using reusable ones. No one needs baby wipes. Cut up an old towel or clothing if you can't afford to buy wipes.

ohmysoul · 14/03/2020 20:36

If can't get wipes, cut up an old towel into small squares and wet them before use. They can be washed in the washing machine. We have cheeky wipes and they are basically that.

I'm sorry you can't get nappies or milk though, it's awful.

Flannel instead of wipes - wipes are horrendously bad for the environment

inthemoment1990 · 14/03/2020 20:37

Ok thank you people ! It’s not I can’t afford to buy them, I am just worried that in a few weeks time I won’t be able to buy them . I’ve checked amazon out and going to buy some of their brand now ! X

Cotton wool and water instead of baby wipes?

I’m lucky as my kid# are older, but mildly concerned about my ability to fill the hollow legs of a 15 year old boy; and spending 24 hours a day with DH

Lunafortheloveogod · 14/03/2020 20:39

Face cloths/cotton wool for wipes?
Look to see if there’s a nappy library or preloved cloth too?

Milks my only lost cause, I’m glad ds is prescription formula so unless you have a script you can’t panic hoard it. I’m not sure what to do for dc2 (will be arriving tomorrow or the next few days via induction) have spoken about trying to ebf the best I can so I can keep what we’ve got until dp goes back to work .

Pentium85 · 14/03/2020 20:40

Just reusable ones? Really isn’t that difficult.

As for the milk, worst case scenario is normal cows milk and vitamins.

But seriously, the amount of baby milk in my local shop, I’ve no idea how you couldn’t get enough

xJune88 · 14/03/2020 20:41

I just had to go to 3 shops to get my baby her formula it's ridiculous how selfish some people are been!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/03/2020 20:41

People managed before wipes were invented. You’ll be fine. Milk is more of a worry I’ll admit.

Singingatmidnight · 14/03/2020 20:42

I've ordered formula direct from the manufacturer (Hipp) so as not to affect the supplies in the corner shops.

Seymourcrelborne · 14/03/2020 20:43

I got toilet roll off amazon easily enough then I don't have to battle in the shops. Some reasonable prices on eBay too

woodencoffeetable · 14/03/2020 20:43

flannel & water instead of wipes. (much better for baby's skin as well).
nappies, if absolutely stuck without, fold a hand towel, there are clips on youtube on how to fashion a temporary nappy from a towel.
milk - yes absolutely a priority I hope you will not have issues getting some when you need it.

Cremebrule · 14/03/2020 20:49

Different supermarket seem to have different stock problems. My local one had lots of nappies and formula yesterday but no eggs, loo roll or pasta. I think nappies and formula are things that are sensible to have in bulk anyway. I tried to buy extra formula during the Brexit uncertainty so I’d always have some in. My youngest has just turned one and I have to admit I’m relieved I don’t need to be reliant on formula anymore. Out of everything, it would be the one thing (other than medicines) that I’d worry about running out of.

CherryPavlova · 14/03/2020 20:49

Don’t use wipes. They barely existed when my first was young. Cotton wool and a little bowl of warm water for tiny ones.
Alternatively lay them across your hand and swill them under your tap - but only if you can set a constant temperature and not in the kitchen sink.
Buy face flannels and use them as reusable wipes or make your own from old clothes. Soak in Milton and hot wash. When you go out just take a couple and put in a plastic nappy bag to bring home.

If you’re past a stage where you can restart breastfeeding (which is a surprisingly long time) you’ll just have to buy whichever formula there is and use that.
In an emergency and for a couple of days only, full fat evaporated milk diluted three parts milk to two parts boiled cooled water used to be used and babies survived.

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 20:53

For milk check boots online, you can order for free delivery to store next day and they seem to have most brands in. You can also get home delivery.

BakewellGin1 · 14/03/2020 20:55

Aldi had all of those near me obviously depending if your fussy on brands x

Notquiteagandt · 14/03/2020 23:53

My monthly subscription of pampers arrived as normal this morning from amazon.

A 192 nappy pack.

Prime it and you will get it tomorrow.

namechangetheworld · 15/03/2020 00:00

I'm worried about the formula situation too OP. I've got two extra boxes of HIPP stashed away just in case but I can't really afford to buy any more at the moment. It's currently up to £40 on Amazon instead of £10 in the supermarkets. I'm not worried about nappies or wipes - if the worst comes to the worst we can live without.

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 15/03/2020 00:02

I agree with you about formula especially. Nappies/wipes you can grab any brand if necessary but formula is a basic need. Amazon are £20 a box which is double what it is in boots or the supermarket. Absolute joke!!

notangelinajolie · 15/03/2020 00:11

Seriously?
There are many ways to wipe a baby's bum, babies have been around long before baby wipes. Cotton wool, a flannel, muslin squares - even an old towel cut into squares or how about a t-shirt cut into squares. And as for nappes - well the same applies. Get inventive and save the planet in the process.
