So my brother in law who's been at my house the last week, his mum's house who we've just come back from today (he was there 2 days ago), has been taken in to hospital after coughing his guts up, confirmed Corona virus.
He's really not well. How concerned do I need to be we will get it? I have 2 kids

People are infectious 5 days before symptoms appear apparently so unfortunately I would be prepared that you all may have it, sorry

You should be more concerned for yourself children and babies are lowest risk groups.

I'd hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

You need to self isolate from now.

Hope you're ok Flowers

You should be able to get tested as you’ve been in contact with a confirmed case. Wishing you all well.

For most people it isn't going to be awful. So you've been exposed and currently don't have symptoms but could be infectious.

Retrace your steps since seeing him and focus on contacting people, particularly vulnerable ones, you can trace that you've spent time with.

Book an online delivery slot, check your food stocks and meal plan your next two weeks so if you, any of you, become I'll you have easy foods that anyone in the family can prep - slam in the microwave type stuff.

Do you have good neighbours/ family near by who can do any emergency runs for basics for you?

Most of all look after yourselves, shut the door, get fresh air outside if you have a garden, have rules for personal space time so you don't go stir crazy.

I hope your BIL is now in the best place he can be, everything will be done possible for him to have the best outcome.

This is not true.
The UK testing strategy has changed. Only hospitalised patients are tested now.

A friend of mine has been working all last week (in close quarters) with someone who has just been diagnosed and he has been told they will not test him, he should just self isolate and his family do not need to self isolate unless he goes down with any symptoms.
