What's the status re asthmatic children and school?

Dd (12) is asthmatic and had a bad case of pneumonia several years ago.

Ex DH has come down with all the symptoms of CV and as a secondary school teacher, he's urging me to keep DC (both secondary age) at home.
He's in a lot of pain (lungs) and anxiety is understandably heightened.

Schools are open of course, and most likely will be until Easter. So do I keep her off for the next two weeks? I emailed the school for advice five days ago, no response...

Thank you

Keep them home. Not official advice but moral.

I am wondering the same atm. My ds (7) has asthma and even a mild cold really affects him. Without fail he will end up on steroids/needing nebulisers whenever he is unwell. I think if he catches this virus he will be very poorly.
There is only one official case in my city at the moment so I guess that’s reassuring(?), but I am so close to keeping him and my dd home. If I send them on Monday I will speak to the school and see if they are any help/have any advice..

Steroids cause bad response in relation to Covid 19. Keep them home if you can.

Thank you. I'll do that then..

Sorry to jump on this thread, but there seems to have been very little advice re: asthma and Corona virus.

I'm asthmatic and last time I had a chest infection I was admitted to hospital, I work in retail and am worried about it tbh. Sad
The amount of people coughing in the shop today was awful.

I've got a child with asthmas too, and I have been very worried. When I voiced this concern to a doctor friend recently, she said that asthma is very prevalent in children and that we should find reassurance in how low the number of children needing critical care (or dying) is.

I know what you mean! I got so angry today at the number of people I saw out in public coughing without covering their mouths. I ended up having a go at one of them, knowing I needed to step back.

Yes, very little advice but I think meanwhile keep going with inhaler and up the nutrient content of diet...
