Hand washing

Hello, wanting some common sense advice.
I live alone. And I have no family or friends nearby so it’s only ever me in my home.
My hands are getting so sore. So my plan is this - while out the house continue to be thorough with hand washing. Wash my hands thoroughly when I enter my home and thoroughly before I leave . But while I’m at home I’m going to just carry out normal hand hygiene - ie food prep and after toilet.

Does anyone spot any flaws in my logic? Happy to be corrected as I don’t want to put anyone at risk.

I don't know if this will help but I have mixed a little oil in my hand sanitiser gel and it really helps. Only a tiny amount so it doesn't dilute it much but it goes a long way!

I'm not sure but if your hands are really sore, I can recommend either the Body Shop hemp hand cream or soap and glory hand cream. Mine are in a terrible state with the extra washing and it's so sore but these help.

Your plan doesn't sound much different from what we have been advised to do? Apart from washing hands before leaving the house - I haven't been doing that and I don't recall seeing any suggestion we should, handwashing at your destination after you have been out and about potentially touching things is more important/vital.

Other than after and before food prep/eating (and if you do something which soils your hands, or makes them greasy, or if something which shouldn't be in contact with hands for too long gets on them, such as a cleaning product - but I would class all that as normal hand hygiene and it wouldn't all be happening multiple times a day) I am not sure when else you might wash your hands in your own own home? Are you washing them randomly while you are home? Or are you coughing and sneezing into a tissue and washing hands after that? But again I would count that a normal hand hygiene.

I would also recommend Body Shop Hemp hand cream or Soap and Glory. I also find Norwegian Formula really effective.

My hands are so raw I have cracked bleeding knuckles.
I'm thinking the open bleeding cracks are probably worse for attracting the virus than not washing my handsConfused

Just wash them when you come into the house, surely? Where else could you pick anything else up from?

Sound logic as far as I can tell and we are following that as well. Also, clean your front door handle/door handle to whatever room you wash your hands in when you first get home.. we carry our baby in a car seat into the house so wash that handle too

I live alone too and that’s what I’m doing - no different to what I always do anyway. I do also wash my hands after getting any deliveries now, just in case, but that’s the only change.

I also live alone, I'm just doing what I'd normally do at home.
It's fine I'd assume.

I'd add to the list:

  • Wash hands after handling your mobile phone- it might be covered in Viral particles from outside.
  • Wash your hands after handling your handbag or coat/shoes (same as above)
  • Wash your hands immediately before eating, touching your face etc.

Also Neutrogena Norwegian Formula works well for dry hands.
