Birthday party next week-cancel?

DS has his much awaited 5th birthday party planned for next Saturday. It’s at a party hall with about 35 children from his class. I’ve checked with some parents who said they will come unless of course things go more downhill in the next few days. Should I go ahead or postpone? I’ve paid a deposit for the cake and entertainer that’s non refundable, I can of course request them for a new date given the circumstances. Have people gone ahead with parties in your circle?

Wait unto Monday/Tuesday and see if your local schools are planning to close. If the schools are still open, a party with his classmates isn't going to make any difference.

Well my best friend gets married on Saturday and we will still be going unless a law has been passed to say it cannot go ahead.
With that in mind I think id go ahead. Just make sure you get the kids to wash their hands before they eat.

Jesus. Ireland and the UK are worlds apart. Nothing here is going ahead. No one is even asking the question. Its just assumed that birthday parties aren't going ahead. You'll either be proved very very right or very very wrong. There's no in between.

Kids pretty much confined to the house in Ireland, they've just locked the public play parks. So if you were here there is no way you'd have a birthday party.

hidinginthenightgarden · 14/03/2020 19:21

Locked the parks??? There are about 8 on our (very large) housing estate. I was planning to do a rota with the neighbours to get the kids out for half an hour a day if it comes to it.

Same dilemma here, we’re seeing how it goes. If schools close, which I think they will by the end of the week, I think we will have to cancel

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 14/03/2020 19:25

nightgarden we definitely shouldn’t be getting kids together with their friends if schools are closed

moita · 14/03/2020 19:26

We are playing it by ear. Got two parties and a christening in the next two weeks. Waiting to see what happens

BertiesLanding · 14/03/2020 20:00

Yes, cancel.

hidinginthenightgarden · 14/03/2020 20:48

@TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince
I meant the rota would be to make sure families avoid each other not to gather in the park!

Oly4 · 14/03/2020 20:49

You don’t need to cancel unless the govt/PHE advise this!

Swearwolf · 14/03/2020 20:52

Same situation here, she's been planning her 4th birthday for about six months! We're still going ahead unless the country goes into lockdown or unless the village hall we've booked says they are closing. If that happens, we will postpone til after Easter. If the schools close at the end of the week, I'm not sure.

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 14/03/2020 20:55

Oh, I see! My apologies.

We had DD's today, only 8 of them but we decided that seeing as she's at school with them all every day it should be ok. I had them all wash their hands before eating, and the people working at the place we had it at were going around disinfecting everything multiple times.

I cancelled dd's (7) party tomorrow. I feel really bad but the fact both dds have coughs helped the decision Sad.

Dd took it really really well. We've spent the first day in isolation relaxing together. Honestly haven't done that since Xmas and it was actually lovely. I expect another couple of days and I will feel v different!
