Hi all,

Obviously the situations getting worse. I don’t know about you all but I could do with a distraction away from current events.

Can anyone recommend any books to read? Preferably not about viruses :(

Bonus points if they are on kindle unlimited.

The Martian- Andy Weir. Cheerfully deals with being up shit creek /stuck on Mars.

Try My Grandmother asked me to tell you she’s sorry by Fredrick Backman. Slightly ludicrous but I found it a good distraction.

Don’t read The Dog Stars. I just finished it before all this kicked off.😩

I usually find Alexander McCall Smith's observations and gentle humour soothing if I'm feeling low or anxious. The Scotland Street series is my favourite. His short stories are good too.

I’ll second Alexander McCall Smith.
I also like Emily Barr. Easy to read page turners that transport you to some amazing locations.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/03/2020 17:50

I think Nancy Mitford would fit the bill too.

Perhaps Armistead Maupin? Light, gossipy and entertaining.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/03/2020 18:30

Yes, definitely try Alexander McCall Smith. I’ve recently finished Trains and Lovers.

Just ploughing through my collection of the Chalet School. Always soothing. Though I still want to know how to walk up a mountain without bending your knees.

Any book by Alexandra Potter. Nice light-hearted read!
