Shingles

I've just been diagnosed with shingles. I have it in my mouth and left side of my face. Been given anti virals by the GP but advised to self isolate for 7 days as my immune system is not as it should be at the moment and I should also be avoiding those comprised out there, even though it's a small risk.

I guess there's enough going on out there at the moment they'll happily tell me to stay out of the way.

Luckily I work from home but just wanted to share my experience here. I feel shocking tbh.

I know two people with shingles. Any chance it could be a reaction to being exposed to CV-19?

Calamine lotion is great for itchiness . My 21 DS came back from uni with shingles just before lockdown. He was quite poorly. Blisters on front of torso around armpit and upper back. Horrible.

Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus and can be brought on by stress, lowered immune system, etc. You cannot catch shingles from shingles - you can get chicken pox from direct contact with fluid from the spots.

It is a stressful time so maybe that's why there are more shingles cases. Covid 19 also has skin rashes as a symptom so maybe that's why they wanted to rule that out.

Thanks lissie it’s been a long while since I’ve had to bother with toddler related problems.

I know this will be a bit of a woo view, I wonder if those that chose to not vaccinate their children 2002-2008 that their Dc are now more likely to breed the disease and pass shingles on to our DC who were vaccinated.

Happy to be told wrong but it’s a thought in my mind...

You cannot pass on shingles

dementedpixie · 26/04/2020 22:37

And you cant get shingles unless you've had chicken pox in the past
