Covid
Would you take baby to GP for injections?

DS is due his second round at 12 weeks this week at our local surgery.
Our area has multiple cases of the virus, including the area surrounding the doctors surgery.
We have a 9am appointment and was thinking one of us could wait outside with him til he’s called but now I’m not sure it’s wise to go at all.
It’s the top up from his first round so not sure if he needs to have them within a specific window?
I know they are important and will definitely get them done just wondering whether now
Is the time or to postpone to be cautious. Really not keen to go to the surgery at the moment

Vaccinations are important.
Can you call ahead to discuss your concerns
bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 12:40
Unless your surgery tells you otherwise, yes, do go.
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 14/03/2020 12:41
Yes I would take him ..at the moment the infections he is being vaccinated for are more prevalent and dangerous for babies and they have to be done at a certain number of weeks for a reason.
I understand your concerns, I was the same when ds was tiny and there was no covid then !
Just exercise due caution where you can
helly29 · 14/03/2020 12:42
Seeing as coronavirus doesn't seem to affect children badly, but measles, meningitis, polio etc. definitely do, I'd still go.
ScribblyGum · 14/03/2020 12:43
If they are still doing routine immunisations then yes, go and get them done.
Smithtylater · 14/03/2020 12:44
I went on Thursday for my babies 16 week vaccines. The surgery was empty and the nurse said they have cancelled many appointments but baby vaccines they have kept as they are important. I was having second thoughts about taking him if im honest but glad i went.
hallomother · 14/03/2020 13:32
That’s interesting smithty I’ll call our surgery and see what they say
Unsureursula · 14/03/2020 13:35
My LG had her 3rd set on Wednesday. I just kept her in the pram and only took her out for the vaccinations (I kept the hood down and stood in a quiet part of the surgery). Tbh it seemed much quieter than usual and I’m glad she’s had the vaccines now. I understand your concern though and second suggestions to call ahead to the surgery
Lumene · 14/03/2020 13:37
Yes and would get it done now before the risk of catching virus ramps up.
You don’t want your baby getting a preventable disease with the NHS overrun for the next few months plus.
scrivette · 14/03/2020 13:39
Yes I would have them done, just make sure you wash your hands before going and after going.
bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 13:39
Don't phone them. The strain on surgeries in huge right now. If they don't want you there they will let you know. Check their website for updates. Otherwise just go.
Mercedes519 · 14/03/2020 13:39
Our GP is only letting people in following a conversation on the intercom so they are screening people before they come in. I would say you’d be at no more risk than anywhere else.
Wolfff · 14/03/2020 13:42
I went to the GP last week. There were a couple of babies waiting for injections and me and a couple of other patients who had been triaged by phone before being seen by a GP. BTW I am in Kensington which has a number of cases, I think. Do go. Don’t risk your baby getting something worse.
hallomother · 14/03/2020 16:58
That’s true they are important and do need to be done
