School trips

My daughter (Y7) is due to be going on a PGL trip Monday to Wednesday to Lincolnshire

I've been in contact with the school and the PGL people and they have all said there is no need to cancel and "business as usual"

No other parents seem to be worried about the risks involved, am I just being over anxious?
Would you send your children?

Shameful bump

Is this a trip with schoolmates (ie the people she hangs out with anyway) or a mixed group? Will other children be attending the activities at the same time?

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 14/03/2020 11:44

Mixed group, plus children from all over the uk will be attending this trip.

My son has had his school residential to Shropshire cancelled. He was meant to be going on Tuesday with his whole year.

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 14/03/2020 11:51

Oh really?
I'm still baffled why they haven't cancelled!!!

I'm in a similar situation as my DD is due to go away on the 23rd for 4 nights to a PGL place. We're due a meeting with the school on Monday for a last minute prep. I'm happy for her to go away as long as the school are happy to take them.
My only concern is what if a teacher falls ill while they are there. How would the teacher self isolate away from home.
I think it places a lot of pressure on the teachers with the worry of what if. Taking the children's disappointment out of the equation it would be fairer on the teachers to cancel I think.

Nquartz · 14/03/2020 11:57

From what teachers have said on here if they cancel they lose money (deposits/full/ depends on timings/contracts etc) but if the venue/destination cancel insurance kicks in so I would assume they're just sitting tight waiting to see what happens.

Personally I wouldn't send her but we could afford to lose the money.

Dd has a trip to major city museum on Wednesday.... still going ahead. But not sure she'll be in school by then

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 14/03/2020 12:01

They have said there is plans in place for every situation and it is all covered in terms of adults/children falling ill. They are all travelling on a coach and another teacher is taking a small
Mini bus in case of illness.
We can afford to lose the money it's not that, she is itching to go, loves outdoor activities and is sharing a room with all new friends she's met at secondary.
It just doesn't sit right sending her off when there is so much uncertainty.

Did she go OP?

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 16/03/2020 12:08

Yeah they've gone.

I phoned this morning and was again assured that the place was deep cleaned over the weekend and the children were perfectly safe.

I don't know if I've done the right thing tbh.

i think at this point she is just as safe at PGL as she is in school. The teachers will be being vigilant. Worst case scenario you can drive and collect her, not like if she was in another country

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 16/03/2020 13:10

Yes you are completely right.
I've drummed into her that she needs to make sure she is extra vigilant with hand washing and not to share drinks etc.

She isn't at all concerned about it really, keeps saying she'll be fine Grin I Suppose it's better that she isn't worried, no need to scaremonger the children - there's enough of that for the adults to worry about!
