People with high blood pressure - come talk to me

Morning all. I take 5mg to control hypertension, which it does. It's a little higher now because I'm taking another medication that raises it, it's a balance but one that has worked for me up to now.

Now, until the last couple of days I hadn't really thought of myself in an "at risk" group. I'm 45, and other than the HTN have no health issues. But now I've started thinking that I've been a bit ridiculous, and now I'm starting to worry. We've been taking sensible precautions as a family, but maybe I need to do more? I can stop the med that contributes to to the BP issue, as it's not needed to keep me alive!

I'd love to hear from others with tablet controlled high BP, what are your thoughts?

I am on BP medication, Atenolol, although one GP thinks mine is due to white coat syndrome! As i am slightly worried this may put me at higher risk, i am also 56 so age wise that is another one i have decided to drag the exercise bike out from under the dust and use it.

Yes I'm going to start running! I've lost weight recently and have made some general improvements to my health. Problem is, I'm generally very anxious, I'm not on meds for that but I've had a few periods of sick leave as a consequence of it. It contributes to my high BP. Now is not a good time for the chronically anxious!

All we can do is keep taking the medication and making other improvements that are suggested for high BP, well done on the weight loss. Also remember that the health of people with high BP will be different some will have no health issues and some will have several but they always use a blanket term when reporting.
Exercise is good for anxiety, so that will help but build the running up gradually.

Me too (waves), high blood pressure, on medication, 55 and overweight 😳. I've just done 30 minutes on the exercise bike, have lost (some) weight recently but a long way to go. Feels odd/scary to be high risk

I’m scared too. I’m 51, with T2 diabetes & HBP. I don’t take medication for either. Both are/were ‘diet controlled’. I usually eat keto/low carb but haven’t been ‘good’ since before Christmas, so I know my T2 BGL is high & I imagine my BP is too. My Dad died of a HA. etc

I had a small Operation a couple of years ago (unrelated) but both BGL &BP went off the scale. Trouble is the medication made me really ill. So I came off it and got my BGL back to normal with diet & exercise. My BP was still high, but my Dr knows how ill the meds made me & was happy that it was coming down with D&E

Right now I’m stressed to fuck about dying of Covid/heart attack and the stress isn’t helping!!

I have been prepping for self care if I get it, because I’m pretty sure that once the hospitals have to start deciding who to treat (and they will) I’ll be marginally in front of the very elderly with ‘underlying health issues’ and won’t get high enough up the list to be put on a vent.

I plan to exercise more and try to low carb while I can - but I’m scared.

It sounds like you’re doing all the right Things health & hands wise. i guess being thoughtful about where you go & who you see is a sensible next step.

((Sorry, I just really read your post and you were looking for others on medication, but maybe something I’ve said will help in some way 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Age 50 on Ramipril and feeling rather scared . I lost of weight and got fit a couple of years ago but about a year ago had an injection that resulted in a large gain over pretty short space of time then had hysterectomy 6 months ago so nowhere near my fittest.

Went to run on Monday then felt sick on Tuesday but resuming shortly. Shall we use this to encourage each other?

Don’t forget that a lot of the older population (i mean over 70) have high blood pressure so this is likely reflected in the severe cases. And also they may have other heart issues along with this.

Most people with serious heart/ artery issues have so through high blood pressure.

So the picture isn’t clear cut.

If you’re 40’s/50’s with HBP but otherwise healthy this is very unlikely to kill you, or even make you severely ill. Just get as healthy as you can be!

@Liveinside. Can I ask, what credential you have to say what you’ve said? Are you ‘medical’ or just a poster trying to be kind & reassuring?

I’ll take any positive hopeful comment 😊but I’ll give it a bit more ‘weight’ if you’re a virologist 😊🤣
