Covid
14 weeks pregnant worried
RP17 · 14/03/2020 09:09
Hi
Is anyone else early in second trimester and worried about coronavirus? Probably a stupid question I know.
I was feeling reassured by the guidance from RCOG early last week saying there was no evidence of vertical transmission etc but the news last night that a baby may have been born with the virus having been passed in the womb has really worried me.
Keep looking for updates and news that they’re both ok. So sad and worrying

Hi,
I am 21 weeks but I am worried like you are! There is just not enough evidence to demonstrate anything at the moment!
From what I’ve read during the last month, all women that gave birth in China gave birth to healthy babies so I am not sure how this one in U.K. happened... but I understand in China they all did C-section to avoid passing it to the baby during delivery which may be why this one got it instead.
In Italy so far there have been only 15 cases of pregnant women catching the virus and they all seem to be coping well and for now it seems it doesn’t transfer vertically to the baby. So I am keeping my fingers crossed and trying to be calm, but it’s not easy, especially since I don’t feel very protected by the UK government at the moment.
I just hope not to catch it and that it will go away soon

@RP17
I’m sorry you are feeling worried. I am too but I’m much earlier in my pregnancy. I don’t think there is currently any evidence that the uk case was transferred in the womb. They don’t know yet. If I was you I would focus on the RCOG guidelines which are more measured than what is being reported in the press/ online.
I’m trying to ease my worries by only allowing limited ‘research time’ and trying to turn off news notifications. Other than follow sensible hand washing guidelines and taking precautions around crowded places there isn’t anything else we can do and the stress and worry isn’t good for general well-being so focusing on dealing with that is a positive step to take. Every good wish for your pregnancy

I'm nearly 6 months and worried too. According to their timeframe by baby would be born around the peak. I'm having an ELCS and worried they will cancel it. The story about the newborn is scary. I'm staying at home as much as possible now.

What does everyone think of the government briefing today? It may just be just a precautionary measure, including pregnant women in the vulnerable groups, but it’s worrying.
Are you staying at home for 12 weeks? My 3 year old is still going to nursery but perhaps I should keep him off now..difficult to work from home though with a (nearly) 3 year old. Should I stay away from everyone apart from partner/son..So difficult to know what to think and what to do for the best.🙁

I'm in the same boat RP17. 21 weeks pg with a 2.5yo in nursery. I am self employed and can work from home, but not if 2.5 yo is at home... But if he doesn't go I still have to pay and won't be able to earn. 😕 Its hard to know what the best course of action is.
