Loathed you're start another thread but couldn't find my answer.

We have an immunosuppressed relative nearby and a (so far) fit 96 yr old in law to care for too. We are hand washing constantly.

Wiping down door handles and surfaces too, using disinfectant and dettol spray - is that enough?

I'm trying to get hold of alcohol wipes for when heading to work - handles, petrol pumps, car doors etc so that we minimise transmission back to the vulnerable in our family.

What are you all doing?

Even with a potential lockdown in the pipeline, we will have to take turns to care for our elder relative. They live on their own and are fairly independent but will need groceries, help with showering. We want to be scrupulously safe when with her.

I'm not really sure what more you can do!
I've got sanitizer in my car and usually clean door handles as part of my cleaning routine even though we never close doors in my house. Plenty of hand soap and just being extra vigilant

Biancadelrioisback · 14/03/2020 15:28

Also, you can order groceries to be delivered to your relatives. Perhaps suggest they come stay with you if you really don't want them to be alone?

Nquartz · 14/03/2020 15:36

I'm using a mould & mildew bleach spray to clean handles etc with kitchen roll which I then throw away, we have dettol wipes (kill corona virus) but it's only a pack of 30 & a few had already been used so trying to ration them.

Hand washing regularly, wiped out shopping this morning with anti bac wipes whilst wearing disposable gloves.

Not sure what else we can do.

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to check that I was on the right track.

When there's a virus I personally prefer to use bleach, i make a solution up in an empty or near empty spray bottle. When you shop for the relatives wipe down the trolley handle and wear some latex gloves. I'd also wipe over the steering wheel. These are not things that I'm currently doing but I would if I were in contact with the elderly.

Redpriestandmozart · 14/03/2020 18:23

I currently have the bowl part of the sink filled with a bleach solution and 2 microfibre clothes in it. Everyone uses the solution to wipe door handles, light switches, countertops, chairs, and tables. It is chanced twice a day. I've always used bleach, the kids used to joke it was the smell of Mum. I have reiterated that it's everyone's responsibility to keep wiping, three adults in the house who are all on board with it.

What did u do before to stop passing on viruses bacteria’s etc? Keep up with that x

delilahbucket · 14/03/2020 18:29

I've just been reading that they are confident Dettol wipes and sprays kill the virus. I'm pleased because this is what I use to clean most of my house and in the car, so while I may have just been doing my normally cleaning routine wiping down handles today, at least it is of some benefit. I've definitely been cleaning more than usual, which is silly, because I'm not worried about anyone in our household catching the virus and we have no visitors planned. I don't really have the time to be I'll though.

How do people clean their phones? I feel mine is 😷

Nquartz · 14/03/2020 18:32

@BeardedMum and remotes 😷

DD has CV symptoms so we're wiping everything she touches (which we're limiting) inc remotes

IOYOYO · 14/03/2020 18:35

BBC are saying clean phones with soap. There’s a video with instructions if you google

KMoKMo · 14/03/2020 18:35

I’ve also made up a bleach solution here. Saw it on this morning. Something like 15ml of bleach to half a litre of water. I hadn’t realised you could do this but far more cost effective than buying dettol spray. I think Alice Beer said a small bottle of bleach would make up 50 spray bottles.

delilahbucket · 14/03/2020 21:28

@BeardedMum regular soap and a soft cloth. Avoid speakers etc.
