It seems as though lots of people are choosing to practice social distancing and self isolate even when there's allegedly no need. In the town nearest to me, and indeed my whole county, nearly all local events have been called off, right down to the lego club at the library. The shops have been decimated but town is incredibly quiet. Buses are empty, local taxi drivers are queued up at the ranks waiting for fares that won't come. Restaurants are hit by cancellations. Our local chamber of commerce has essentially begged people to continue shopping in town because businesses can't take the hit.
It's almost like we've all gone into lock down. Was that the plan all along?
It's well known the Behavioural Insights Team (the nudge unit) had a lot of input into the govt plans, so was that the nudge? Getting the least trusted man in the country, looking a bit sweaty and flustered to say 'it's fine, trust us we know what we're doing', then looking to the grown ups (CMO and CSO) for them to say 'that's right Boris, it will all be fine' knowing full well the majority of people will go 'but that's not what everyone else is doing, I don't trust them at all so I'll do the opposite'. Once a few people have started doing it, others will follow suit. We've seen that happen with panic buying. It's fairly obvious that the ridiculous loo roll situation was started by one person stocking up and another seeing their full trolley and thinking 'oh god, do we need to stockpile loo roll now? I'd better get a few packs'
Maybe they've played a blinder here, and cleverly convinced us all to do the exact opposite of what they said. Nudge theory is literally that, making people do things, without ever saying what the thing is they have to do.
Have we been nudged into lock down?! Or is this really the eugenics experiment Demonic Cummings has been waiting for?!
