We think DH has coronavirus....

Hi, so this morning DH rang me from his work to say he’s developed a sudden cough and felt hot. He came straight home and we put him in the study which has its own bathroom and sofa bed. He’s been in there all day. I am literally putting food at the door for him and he’s self sufficient in the room. I’m sure he’ll be ok even if it is CV19 as he’s under 40 and pretty healthy however my question is this.... do I now need to isolate for 7 days? We have two young children, one of whom is at school and one at preschool. We are all well apart from DH. Would be a bloody nuisance to be honest but will I be unwittingly infecting folk if I go about my usual business? Our own elderly relatives have been isolated all week anyway so I wouldn’t see them now. Dilemma!

The only thing I thought went against his theory is why would they tell us to isolate even with mild symptoms.
It reassures Bobby Bubbles that he has some recourse to action. It prevents Bobby from ringing 111 or turning up at A&E. Bobby is happy that Boris cares.

JulietTango · 14/03/2020 19:51

Exactly

ThreeBlindNice · 14/03/2020 20:00

@jewel1968 they would tell you to isolate with only mild symptoms so you don't pass on to elderly or vulnerable

ThreeBlindNice · 14/03/2020 20:00

@JulietTango thank you for the link, very interesting

jewel1968 · 14/03/2020 20:17

But if they want people to get the virus why tell people to isolate. What is certain is UK is at odds with most other countries

JulietTango · 14/03/2020 20:19

Italy imposed their lockdown on 9th march in the evening. I suppose if the most common incubation is 5 days as they say we'll see a reduction in new cases there soon.

Sorry @ChippityDoDa we've derailed a bit

JulietTango · 14/03/2020 20:20

Because they don't want everyone to get it at once. They want to spread it out.

chatterbugmegastar · 14/03/2020 20:21

It says that data on infection rates needs to be accurate - ConfusedHmm

JeepersC · 14/03/2020 20:30

Because they don't want everyone to get it at once. They want to spread it out.

They know that 7 days isn't going to stop it. Boris wants to be 'seen' to be doing something, whereas he's actually offering us up like sacrificial lambs. He KNOWS 7 days is insufficient. Gosh, I'm surprised how few people can read through a screen of bullshite.

JeepersC · 14/03/2020 20:34

Let's just take Joe Soap and Bobby Bubbles.

Joe and Bobby start coughing. Joe thinks to himself - I'm not very unwell, it can't be coronavirus - I'll go to work. Bobby is a more discerning character and decides he has corona virus. Joe goes to work, Bobby decides he needs to quarantine himself for 14 days. In fact, it's Joe who has corona virus and Bobby has a mere cold.

Boris the genius understands Joe and Bobby. He doesn't think Joe or Bobby could cope with too much information so he gives them a blanket one rule fits all to reassure Bobby and Joe.

JulietTango · 14/03/2020 20:53

And mitigates the risk for everyone.
And for what it's worth I think it's much too clever a strategy for Boris to have had anything to do with it

lorrainerose · 14/03/2020 21:32

Sounds like he's doing well op, my DDad lost quite a bit of weight so it's good your DH is eating and drinking well.

ChequerBoard · 14/03/2020 21:45

Yes OP you and the DC need to self-isolate, doing anything else is downright selfish.

From the BBC website:

Do I need to self-isolate?

From Friday, everyone with flu-like symptoms - defined as a fever of above 37.8C or a persistent cough - is being asked to stay at home for at least seven days.

Anyone who has travelled to an affected area, or who has been in close contact with an infected person, had already been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

Spending 15 minutes within 2m (6ft) of someone with the virus, or having face-to-face contact, is judged as close contact and a significant risk.

Pumpkinpie1 · 15/03/2020 09:10

I think the government advice is pathetic, no adverts on what to do. They cared more about Brexit leaflets than they do about saving lives and public health!
Other countries are buying ventilators from the UK to use. HAS OUR NHS or cobra ?

ChippityDoDa · 15/03/2020 22:41

Well... he’s still in the study 😂. He’s going a bit mad and catastrophising massively about coronavirus. I’m still fine as are the DC. He was struggling a bit this morning with the cough and chest tightness. For some insane reason he tried to jog on the spot (?) and couldn’t do it. However he seems to have settled this afternoon. Let’s hope we are over the worst. He’s eating and drinking and chatting on the phone so it can’t be that bad.

Oh poor you and DH. Hoping he’s better soon and you all stay safe

chatterbugmegastar · 16/03/2020 00:32

Sending you all lots of love, OP

ChippityDoDa · 16/03/2020 13:38

And he’s a million percent better today. He says if he didn’t know better he’d just take a paracetamol and pop off to work. So.... that wasn’t too bad was it! And hopefully when I get it I’ll get the same 5* treatment (bloody unlikely!)

DS friend married with kids has been like this. He is now recovering as well. Nasty but bearable for him.

Whataboutthismess · 16/03/2020 18:03

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it can come in waves

justasking111 · 16/03/2020 18:18

They know his DW works for nhs, just got fingers crossed for him.

Bubu222 · 16/03/2020 18:33

Op glad to know your Dh is doing ok, hope he gets better day by day!
