Is it safe to go to the Dentist?

Is it safe to go to the Dentist? DD2 has a dental checkup next week, DH thinks she should cancel, I think it would be ok to go. My reasoning is that people with a cough/cold symptoms have been told not to go to Dentist /Hospital/Doctors, so surely a Dentist is no more dangerous than a shop? Also Dentists always wear gloves and masks. What do other people think?

My kids went last week and I had a filling done today, so you can guess which way I'd vote.

Myself and my children have appointments next week and I plan on us all still going (obviously I'll cancel if we show any symptoms).
I need a filling desperately so really don't want to cancel.

Not sure what’s happening as we haven’t had any orders yet other than wash your hands and use PPE.
I have cough and mild flu like symptoms but have been off since last Thursday (annual leave). Hoping that it’s a mild dose of COVID so I can self isolate for 7 days. I have a large number of elderly patients and I am taking it seriously!

If you're concerned enough to keep them off school then you shouldn't be taking them to the dentist. If you're ok with them still being out and about then shouldn't be a problem with the dentist. All the implements will be sterilised and everything should be clean as a matter of course.

DH's dental appt under GA was cancelled - they said emergency treatments only, no cleans or fillings. I received my check up reminder this week and phoned them to tell them to keep the mask for someone who needs it.

Hope so. I've just been. Very few people there, and the dentist wore gloves and mask. And didn't cough or spit on me.

I would cancel if its unnecessary. Dental work is a high risk procedure during pandemics, it doesn't matter how sterile the instruments are, if there are virus particles present in a patient they are basically aerosolised during drilling etc and cover the entire room. China cancelled all dental procedures during their outbreak.

I really need something looking at, I'll make an appointment and see what they say.

I've got the hygienist next week and am going.

I saw the hygienist today, she said it's the safest place to be given the disinfection procedures they follow between patients as a matter of course. I'd apologised for being a bit sniffy with hayfever and she wasn't worried at all from behind her mask and gloves, with even the keyboards wearing quick-wipe skins.

This virus will be around for at least the next four months.

I’m sure a lot of us will need to visit a dentist or doctor before it’s over.

Go but just be careful about what you touch and obv stay away if you have any dodgy symptoms.

Thank you to everyone for your help. The Dentist cancelled all non urgent appointments so the decision was made for me.
