Its not the food that I'm thinking of but the prep, handling and delivery. Would you get one?

Open containers, wash hands, spoon out onto plates, wash hands, eat

Everydaylife · 13/03/2020 18:43

I’ve wondered this. What if the chef has the virus?

titchy · 13/03/2020 18:47

What if someone with it coughs over the veg in Tesco? Maybe don't eat any fresh fruit or veg and live off tinned beans and chicken nuggets for the next few months. Obviously wipe the packaging down with bleach first.

viccat · 13/03/2020 18:57

It's a valid question, I've been wondering too - I've done a bit of reading about it online and from everything I've read, food is safe and there is no evidence so far that anyone has got COVID-19 through food, and a medical expert quoted in one article said that other respiratory viruses in the past haven't been transmitted through food either.

If you're worried about the packaging, I would serve it on plates and wash your hands after handling the containers, before you eat. Probably totally unnecessary to do that but just in case.

Thanks for this thread. it's reminded why it's time to step away from MN!!

catwithnohat · 13/03/2020 19:00

I don't know about takeaway...we're having left overs from the freezer tonight, but I'm going out for lunch tomorrow and nothing short of them slamming the shutters is going to stop me!

wineandsunshine · 13/03/2020 19:02

Oh Christ, Saturday is our non-cooking day...I really don't want to give that up!!

MillicentMartha · 13/03/2020 19:04

Deliveroo coming in 30 minutes...

They will do contactless delivery if you ask, but I reckon that’s more to stop them catching anything from us rather than the other way around.

Hugglespuffed · 13/03/2020 19:05

I just had a takeaway. It was delicious.

Alwaysreadyforbed · 13/03/2020 19:06

Ffs. It’s getting worse on here

londonloves · 13/03/2020 19:08

If takeaways aren't safe, literally nothing is including most of your own house. Honestly I'm so depressed by this whole thing all I want to do is eat.

GreggsVSR · 13/03/2020 19:10

Personally I’m avoiding any food prepared by other people but that’s just me. What if the chef has the virus?

CumbiaVillera · 13/03/2020 19:16

Maybe not any meat, as this seems to be the common factor to most of these viruses!

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 13/03/2020 19:23

Maybe avoid licking the packaging and the driver and all will be well I’m sure. 🤷🏼‍♀️

There's my social life ruined.

1forAll74 · 13/03/2020 19:28

Maybe some of the takeaway kitchen staff will have the virus, but don't feel unwell at the moment.

walkingtheway · 13/03/2020 19:29

I also think this might be the thread that drives me to delete Mumsnet from my phone. I've just spent a couple of hours in a busy pub. All was normal. And about to order my Friday night takeaway....

Am I worried about getting Coronavirus? Yes, of course. Do I think I can micromanage and control every aspect of my life to avoid it? No......

gerbilgirl · 13/03/2020 19:30

We've had Chinese takeaway tonight Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 13/03/2020 19:50

Sorry if I have offended anyone. I have kids. Maybe a bit anxious. I thought I would ask the experts...
Anway, its too late. I had one. It was delicious.
Thanks :)
