How do I self isolate my 1 year old

He has a temp, I don't think it's cv but he has to self isolate obviously. What's everyone doing? Surely I can't keep him in one room? He's quite well - I think he's teething, he often gets a temp around 38.

Is this a serious question?

err yes it is.

You'll have to self isolate yourself as well obviously. Do you have other family members in the house? It may be possible to isolate yourself from them e.g. you sleep in with 1yo and your other family members sleep elsewhere. Cook separately and make sure all utensils used are washed up before the other person uses them.

Are you keeping your well in themselves one year old in one room for a week? 😬

How many rooms are in your house? You can go in your own garden too.
If you have other family members but they work, so arent at home as much, maybe they could be confined to one room (and they can go out) and you and 1 year old can have the rest of the house.

He has two older siblings and we have a kitchen, living room, kids room and parents bedroom. Bedrooms we can sort. Living space more tricky. I don't think he'll stay in the bedroom for a week.

Thanks rabbit, maybe I'll get everyone to go out a lot.

If you think anyone is at risk because of a high temperature etc then the whole household needs to isolate itself. Trying to isolate room by room is pointless. No point in others coming and going in and out of the house. It defeats the object.
How likely is it that a one year old has been exposed and the rest of the family hasn’t yet? Even with nursery, presumably you’d have been there too for pick ups and drop offs.

I think unless you live in a mansion with childcare staff it's unrealistic to expect a single child to be isolated. Surely you need to do the whole household.

So the advice from GP is that he is isolating, we need to care for him, but our family can carry on with normal activities other than whichever parent is with him at home at the time. This doesn't sit quite right with me and I think the stay home guidance is not clear enough for children.
