So I have been in contact with someone who is being tested and awaiting results! Until then I have been instructed to isolate with my 2 dc...day 3 and I'm going mad!! Dh is abroad (working) also and I am desperate for him to get home so I have help and so we can all isolate together!! Ask me anything...dc are currently having a chill out after a busy morning!!

We are on day 1 due to cold symptoms. How old are your kids - what have they been doing?

zefstar76 · 13/03/2020 12:30

I realise a lot of people struggle with isolation (or even the idea of it!). Can I ask what it is that people find difficult about it? My mindset could be different because I'm autistic but I would love to understand :)

Have been mentally plotting a family isolation plan.
I will be telling all dc(5)the advice is to stay in their bedrooms.
Won't prevent infection maybe but will stop sibling mass fall out from cabin fever.
And maybe keep me sane a while longer..

mymymymycorona · 13/03/2020 12:35

@Selfsettling3 they are 4 and 6.5, they are surprisingly taking it well so far, although driving me crazy at times
We have been
Painting
Colouring
Lego
Movies
Building forts
Tidying the garden
Face painting....so far...

@zefstar76 I'm coping fine as I'm quite introverted and I'm a home bird really

zefstar76 I would be perfectly happy to isolate for two weeks by myself. It’s the 6, 4 and 1 year olds that I have to isolate too that’s the problem!

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t he have to self isolate from the rest of your household as he’s been abroad? So he doesn’t potentially infect the rest of you? Or are you not fussed

mymymymycorona · 13/03/2020 12:40

@mnthrowaway202020 yes he will... I'm not bothered, I will re isolate (for want of a better term!) with him home.

Mine are 7 months and nearly 4 yrs. I too would love isolation by myself or may just with one of them. The older one need to do lots of running around and we don’t have the space.

zefstar76 · 13/03/2020 13:30

I have four children, two of them with disabilities who I have at home with me full time so maybe I'm just used to it.

BillieEilish · 13/03/2020 13:33

Hi, I'm in Spain and we more or less have to self isolate now.
DD's last day at school today. That's it. No food in supermarket etc. I plan not to go out and welcome it.

DD is exhausted from the last term of school and is older (11), so I am lucky.

She'll be on her ipad a lot I imagine (which I don't mind as she works so hard during term time) She'll do lots of FIMO clay stuff, we'll do some cooking. I am going to take the opportunity to clean my flat and declutter everything, (about a year overdue)

Long baths for both of us and a few face masks etc. Painting nails, that sort of thing.

Should be nice Smile

You're doing well OP

mymymymycorona · 13/03/2020 13:43

@BillieEilish that sounds lovely and relaxing. Best of luck!

@mymymymycorona I think it's much harder if you have just one child at home because you are their main source of entertainment permanently!

bumblingbovine49 · 13/03/2020 14:19

@zefstar76

I can answer that. If I stay at home for too long, I start to become really lethargic and tired and unmotivated and lie around feeling sorry for myself. I try reading and doing stuff but that only works for so long. I have a need to be outside and like being around people, even if only to watch them while wandering around. It re-energises me.

I also like being outside in the sunlight, being inside in a gloomy environment for a long time makes me end up really happy and moody I just get antsy unless I can got for a walk or meet up with someone i every now and again (ie 1-2 a week)

I have been home for 3 days now and I went out this morning for the first time, just being outside and having something to do made me feel better and energised when I got home, so I could get on with things around the house. Otherwise I start to descend into doom and gloom.

I could cope with 14 days isolation (it is not prison after all) but I would find it quite difficult and would feel very claustophobic and grumpy by the end of it

zefstar76 · 13/03/2020 14:35

@bumblingbovine49 Thanks for your reply, super interesting! Had never even considered that people get energised by being around or watching others because it does the total opposite to me.

Being indoors constantly would definitely be difficult if you don't have access to a garden, I can imagine that's pretty soul destroying. I spend most of my time outside in the garden when the weather is good, I would find it very hard to maintain sanity without an outside space.
