AIBU re mother sending DC to school

My work colleague told us today she is self isolating for two weeks from Monday (fine, as we all are set up to work from home and we are encouraged to do this as much as we like).

The reason she is doing this is because her DH is returning from abroad tomorrow (not directly from a high risk country) - BUT he has travelled within Northern Italy in the last two weeks and so he plans to self-isolate for two weeks when he arrives here (no symptoms). Also fine.

Note, we are not in the UK.

My colleague told me that her DH’s DC (who is my colleague’s DSC) is coming to stay for the weekend with them and the plan is the DSC WILL GO TO SCHOOL Monday Angry.

My colleague said she won’t have a lot of say in it as her DSC will return to the DM’s house on Sunday evening. Apparently, the DM needs a break this weekend (understandable) but she still wants the DC to attend school next week (DC is 7).

I tried to say to my colleague that this is not self-isolation. And that self-isolation was not just working from home. She agreed but said she doubted her DH would agree as she had already raised her concerns about her DSC visiting, and they were dismissed.

I wish I knew the name of the DC’s school as I would let them know about this!

AIBU to think this is stupid behaviour?

Also, I’ve name changed as I don’t want anyone to identify her from her circumstances.

None of your business really

Kind of agree. But AIBU to be to wonder how many other people are taking this selfish attitude? I’m a single parent too and I understand the need for a break. But it shows people are still not getting the message!

Maybe it seems like a bigger deal to me as we are in a country a long distance from Northern Italy and we do not have many cases yet. Although two schools in my district have closed this week with teachers testing positive (after returning from abroad).
