Is anyone self-isolating today because of a minor cough?

I'm not making value judgements either way, just interested to know whether people are actually going to follow the (somewhat sparse) instructions we were given yesterday? There's been a heated argument in our house this morning over whether DS1 should stay at home having had a minor sniffle last week and a bit of a cough. It feels counter-intuitive to stay off work/school/college for a week with something most of us would usually just ignore, but those were the instructions... I think it likely that a large proportion of people will just carry on as normal, cough or not.

so is anyone actually at home, not ill, and feeling rather weird about it all?

Not in our house but my ex, the girls' dad is self-isolating. He has had a cough and because he has asthma as well, he is self-isolating. No fever, a bit wheezy (as he would be with any cold) but he is up and about in the house.

I jumped about a foot in the air when youngest DD had a coughing fit last night for about a minute but it hasn't recurred so they have both gone in. I've been waking up with a sore throat most mornings but gone by 9am or so and no cough. No fever for any of us so I'm also in work.

I am staying off as I have a dry cough and cold. I had visited Italy during half term. My daughter is also off having been up most of the night coughing.

Being in the teaching profession, it wasn't a decision I took lightly.

I will be calling 111 shortly. Let's hope I can speak to a person.

@Moonshine86
Why are you calling 111? Do the following apply to you?

you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
your condition gets worse
your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

If not, the advice is not to call and to just self isolate for 7-14 days.

I've kept DS off today. He's had a very mild cough for a couple of nights which is much worse last night/this morning.

Under normal circs he would be at school as he is otherwise fine in himself.

I could do without it, I have no options for childcare and have to take time off unpaid to stay home with him even though I'm fine. Not looking forward to a week of boredom/cabin fever.

Thanks for the advice. I'm calling due to my daughter having underlying health issues. I suspect I am going to struggle to speak to somebody today.

Moonshine - I've been on hold to 111 for an hour and a half now. Hopefully you're area won't be so busy!
