Been exposed, have symptoms, formally told to only isolate for 7 days?!

I was told I had been exposed after receiving healthcare from a medical professional who has tested positive.
Yesterday, I was told 14 days isolation (from exposure date) and they were arranging testing as I have a high temp.
Today, I get a message saying I’m out of isolation as it’s been 7 days and that’s it, bye bye.
Obviously can’t get through to speak to anyone and unsure what to do in terms of isolation.

PHE apologised to those with open cases as they initially gave poor advice. It’s not been confirmed what’s happening with me yet.

They said I’m out of isolation and then retracted it.

It’s a shambles. My case remains open with them.

BJ and his experts didn’t give any rationale for the new “only 7 days” advice

They did. They explained that after 7 days of symptoms the risk of you infecting others has dropped significantly, and therefore there is no longer a need to self-isolate, even if still coughing. Obviously if you are still significantly unwell, or worse that when you started, you should seek medical advice.

People who’ve had direct exposure to a confirmed case are still expected to isolate for 14 days even if no symptoms, apparently.
