Travel insurance

We go to Florida in June and I know i should have sorted insurance by now, but I haven't.

Looking at policies now, does anyone know what I should look out for? We've booked everything separately - flights with BA, private villa and park tickets come to around £5k. Would I be able to claim any / all of that back if the FCO advised against all but essential travel, or Trump stops travel to and from the UK like he has done for some of Europe? I'm shitting myself slightly Blush

Would suggest looking very carefully at the T&Cs OP. I think it will be quite difficult to find a policy to cover you now as the US has already banned some flights

I've just been checking my travel insurance (Crete in August) .. there were lots of warnings about how if you take it out now you won't be covered if you have to cancel because of Corona. I'm sure you will but make sure you read the small print before you buy!

I don't think you can ever get cover for an event that has already begun. So restrictions arising from and consequences of the current pandemic will be excluded.

I've read so much small print my eyes hurt, but I still can't work out if we'll be covered!

Most of them ( probably all of them) even if they inc cover for pandemics / CV won’t now cover you for it as it’s a known ongoing incident .
A lot won’t cover you for cancellation by FCO orders they expect you to claim under ATOL ABTA for flights and holidays
So for example I have insurance that covers me if my flight is cancelled / delayed medical illness
But not for not going if the FCO say so
But I booked with British Airways flights and hotels in the same package so I am covered by ATOL so if the FCO says it’s a no go or the flights are cancelled I will get all my money back
So in your case your flights are probably covered if BA cancels or FCO advises no travel
Villa less likely
Park tickets unlikely but you could check and see what they may offer if you can’t go
Staysure and Insure and go I think maybe still covering it but you need to check the small print
I bought mine a few weeks ago before all this kicked off and 10 days in USA for myself and son with two low level medical problems mentioned was £137
It’s now over £200
If you have paid at least £100 on credit card you can also claim if airline went bust
Check with everyone’s bank account as lots of bank accounts offer free insurance If you have a packaged account and you might not even know about it

This is exactly why you take out travel insurance when you book the holiday. Very unlikely you will be covered by the insurers in respect of the virus as the risk is foreseeable.

No insurance will cover for a known risk. Coronavirus is a known risk.
