Surely we can't be punished for taking kids out of school now

I actually don't necessarily disagree with some of the tactics that the government are trying to employ.

However, I don't want to wait for things to get so bad that I'm putting myself and my children's father at risk of death.

Because that's the reality if you look at it at. You may be young-ish, but if the nhs are over run then your chances of dying could be high.

I've emailed both our schools today asking if they'll support me in taking them out...

Petition to stop parents being prosecuted.

I believe it should be the parents choice

I'm so shocked Boris hasn't closed the schools. All evidence points to the fact that children spread it, while being asymptomatic.

I'm in Ireland, where at last today schools, colleges and creches have been closed.

I think Boris is a nutcase, divorced from realityreality. If I was in the UK I wouldn't hesitate to take my children out of school.

I took my DS(12) out of school. I am immunosuppressed following a double lung transplant. The school were understanding and said his absence would go down as authorised.

I don't feel like I can risk my health after the hell I went through before my transplant but I do go through phases of wondering if I have done the right thing.

If the Irish government hadn't taken this decision today, I would have removed my dc from school anyway and damn the consequences.
Sometimes parents have to push back against bad decisions made by politicians with questionable motivations.

AfterSchoolWorry · 12/03/2020 18:43

Well done FluffyMuppet. A very sensible and proportionate decision. I hope you and your family remain well.

I'm worried, my daughter has really bad asthma. I've ended up in hospital with her more then a few times after a little bit of a cold coming on has turned into really bad breathing difficulties withing a couple of hours. Really don't know what to do.

Thanks @AfterSchoolWorry.

I just got an email from the school saying they now have one pupil who has been diagnosed with Coronavirus. I feel more confident in my decision now.

My school has been told by the council's Education Welfare team to code as unauthorised if a parent has gone against the current self-isolation advice.
