My son’s been in all week with a nasty cough but I think I need to keep him off tomorrow.

Small children are so full of germs that I suspect absence rates will be very high!

I thought it was a cough and a temp, so if they’ve not got a temp then send them in?

It's either a cough or a temperature or both

It's a cough OR a temp, and to quite BoJo, they should self isolate 'no matter how mild the symptoms'

I think you keep them home.

What I don’t understand is does the whole family stay home or just the sick ones?

And

Do we have to keep the sick ones desperate in the house from the others?

They clearly stated the whole family doesn't need to self isolate YET, but that measure will be coming in in the near future.

And how do you go about ensuring that the infected person/people use separate bathrooms? This is, I understand, government advise.

We have one bathroom with three adults living in the home, one of whom is vulnerable. Who has first dibs in the bathroom? Do the other two go unwashed and use a bucket? Or does Johnson at al think all households have at least two bathrooms.

I'm not saying that Italy, Ireland and UsA are dealing with this better, but if "wash your hands more" is the best our government can do, well, it seems a little weak

I don't want to annoy everyone by making a new thread, but is there any information on how CV effects babies? I have a 5 month old DS

So far, we're avoiding taking him to large social gatherings. However, DH is running a half marathon on the weekend. I'm anxious to go due to crowds, definetly won't be taking the baby

The Government advice on sharing bathrooms. Rest of the advice is on the government website.

Use of shared spaces if you live with others:
Minimise the time you spend in shared spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms and sitting areas as much as possible and keep shared spaces well ventilated.

Aim to keep 2 metres (3 steps) away from people you live with and sleep in a different bed where possible. If you can use a separate bathroom from the rest of the household. Make sure you use separate towels from other people in your house, both for drying yourself after bathing or showering and for hand hygiene purposes. Ask your family or the people you live with to remember to use their own towels.

If you do share toilet and bathroom, it is important that you clean them after you have used them every time (e.g. wiping surfaces you have come in contact with). Another tip is to consider drawing up a rota for bathing, with you using the facilities last, before thoroughly cleaning the bath, sink and toilet yourself.

If you share a kitchen with others, avoid using it whilst others are present. Take your meals back to your room to eat. If you have one, use a dishwasher to clean and dry your used crockery and cutlery. If this is not possible, wash them using your usual washing up liquid and warm water and dry them thoroughly, remembering to use a separate tea towel.

We understand that it will be difficult for some people to separate themselves from others at home. You should do your very best to follow this guidance and everyone in your household should regularly wash their hands, avoid touching their face and clean frequently touched surfaces.

We only have 1 bathroom. And a breastfed baby. I cannot self isolate from my family should I have to.

@maa1992, the evidence all suggests babies and children do not particularly suffer with it so I wouldn’t overly worry. Someone will be along soon but there have been almost no deaths, maybe even no deaths of under 10. If there are underlying issues I’d take more care. The concern with children is more spreading it amongst themselves and then to grandparents. Sure someone will be along with more coherent advice in a minute.

My daughter has had a cough since she had scarlet fever at Feb half term, will she need to stay off now even though she's had it weeks?

Fatimalovesbread the advice was a new cough. If your DD has had her cough since February she wouldn't need to be isolated (according to the Govt advice).

How do you take the children to school if you are staying at home in one room?
