Anyone not panicking?
My kid is still at school.
I’m still working.
So is my husband.
I’m going out and about like usual.

Some of the threads on here and daily stuff you hear is absolute twaddle and the media isn’t helping one iota.

If you self isolate for your own reasons then fine. Just fed up with all this “the end is nigh!” rubbish.
It would also be nice if I could buy some damn soap too 😂

Why do you need soap if youre not bothered? I would think you might panic if someone you know becomes seriously ill with it. Think about the vulnerable for goodness sake.

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 16:52

Lol, yes you are quite right.
I never used soap until this pandemic hit. Just spat in my hands. Jesus 😂
My father has COPD and my father in law has emphysema. I work for the elderly.
I do consider other people but if you don’t have underlying health issues there isn’t any reason to panic.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/03/2020 16:55

I'm not concerned for myself or my family about actually getting the virus. Apart from my grandfather who is over 70, nobody has any underlying health conditions and would likely just get mild symptoms.

I'm concerned about the economic impact and feel sorry for those who are worried about the virus. But I am going to work as normal, DS is going to school as normal and we will do so until told otherwise because I need to work.

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 16:57

Exactly like us.
I have enormous sympathy for those in the vulnerable age group and so far I’ve personally had to hold off some of my jobs as the clients are elderly (just in case) and I’ve given my father options on if he wants to see me and risk it but all this panic.
It’s excessive.

Concern is reasonable of course but some of things I read and see are so excessive.

That’s the spirit. As long as me, myself and I am fine then why panic? Sod those with underlying conditions (including those in my own family). As you were everyone, off to the races tomorrow... Confused

Meruem · 12/03/2020 17:00

We already have several threads going, saying the same as you. Was there a need to start another one? People will do what's best for them and their families. If you think that's "excessive" so what?

dudsville · 12/03/2020 17:01

never used soap until this pandemic hit. Just spat in my hands.
Haha!!!

dudsville · 12/03/2020 17:02

I'm not panicking, not prepping, but am cautious about vulnerable loved ones.

formerbabe · 12/03/2020 17:02

Why do you need soap if youre not bothered?

Well I don't know about you but I have been using soap for years, before I'd even heard of coronavirus

GarlicSoup · 12/03/2020 17:06
Biscuit
Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:06

@DirtyDancing yes I specifically said “sod everyone else” including my own father.
🙄

RogueV · 12/03/2020 17:07

Same as you

trappedsincesundaymorn · 12/03/2020 17:07

Why do you need soap if youre not bothered?

How did you wash your hands before then???

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:07

@Meruem I didn’t realise there was but there’s about 10 million threads on everyone panicking so why not have a balance ay?

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:08

@dudsville same here 👍🏻

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:08

@formerbabe no no, no one needed soap pre Coronavirus apparently. Same as bleach or dettol.
It’s fucking painful.

OP posts:
Safiyah2020 · 12/03/2020 17:10

I feel exactly the same way OP

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:11

@Safiyah2020 👍🏻👍🏻

OP posts:
EmmiJay · 12/03/2020 17:12

Same. I'm not panicking at all. I'm picking up my usual little bits in the shops. I refuse to get caught up in it all.

CKoRn · 12/03/2020 17:13

The assumption that only those with underlying health conditions and the elderly are the only ones who should worry is incredibly short-sighted.
You're working under the assumption that our health care system won't get overloaded; when that happens even the most "mundane" health issues will become life threatening. Let's see how unafraid you are in a few weeks time...

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:14

@EmmiJay it’s a very slippery slope if you do!
My fella is a teacher and his school issued a statement saying a pupil came back from holidays with a positive test but never entered the school. Parents have withdrawn kids because they know better apparently. As if all the staff also want it 🙄

One of my hobbies is Scottish Contry Dancing. I teach a local class of around 24, and there are 7 other classes in the city. The average age of members is probably around 70.

We have a big do this Friday of more than 100 people, and a St Patricks evening next week, open to the public. And a weekend school planned for the end of the month, with dancers and musicians visiting from Scotland, Dublin and England. Flights ferries and accommodation have all been booked.

Given that this style iof dancing involves an awful lot of hand contact, what should be be doing? Carrying on as normal, or doing a bit of sensible risk assessing?

EmmiJay · 12/03/2020 17:26

@Statbuck Ok that is insanity! Do the parents think he snuck into school and licked all the desks and books?! Ridiculous.

Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:55

@SegregateMumBev panicking isn’t the same as sensible risk assessment

OP posts:
Starbuck8419 · 12/03/2020 17:55

@EmmiJay yes I suspect that he did 😂😂
It’s the arrogance of some people isn’t it
