Has anyone bought travel insurance this week?

We are travelling later in the year and usually buy it just before we fly (stupid) but thinking I should do it now.

Has anyone recently bought insurance that will pay out if it’s recommended that you don’t fly to x country?

I got staysure which had an option for if an infectious disease breaks out my hotel. I have no underlying health conditions and was £30.

rookiemere · 12/03/2020 11:23

I have multrip.com annual insurance yiu can add disruption cover on which will cover you against FCO recommended cancellation- but don't know how pricey it will be if you buy it now.

Your travel insurance covers non-recoverable costs. Therefore if the government say don’t travel to a particular country, your holiday/flight provider should refund you or offer an alternative.

ILoveAnOwl · 12/03/2020 11:24

Yes, I got it yesterday. Was all as usual as long as you're not going to China.

franklyshankly2 · 12/03/2020 11:24

I’m sure it mentioned paying out if there were warnings not to fly but I would have to double check. But I’m sure that’s why I got it and paid extra. I’m going to New York in June so feeling a bit nervous now.

DraughtyWindow · 12/03/2020 11:25

Check with your travel provider in the first instance.

AlunWynsKnee · 12/03/2020 11:27

I saw something this morning about insurers excluding Coronavirus cancellation from new policies so you might be too late. Double check when you buy it.

fedup21 · 12/03/2020 11:39

Can I ask those who have done it recently who you have gone with?

I did it through money supermarket and ended up with insurance saver who had positive ratings. Boots also had some good policies. LV wanted three times what they were both charging!

EmmaStone · 12/03/2020 12:21

I've got an annual policy through my bank account. We're due to travel over Easter (US), and have been told we are not covered if a country won't allow access to UK nationals (but we're covered if FCO advises against travel, or if we're stuck out there for whatever reason).

lostinbooks · 12/03/2020 12:25

Have a look at money saving expert. There’s an article that summarises what travel insurance companies are offering. I bought an annual policy yesterday after reading it.

Councilworker · 12/03/2020 12:25

Staysure and AXA both offer it. We had bought cover last week but then noticed that FCO advice not to travel was an excluded reason so have cancelled policy and bought one from AXA. I think CO-Op are also offering it. LV= have just stopped offering travel insurance

I was looking on there and I’m not sure what applies to people with existing cover and what would apply to new customers. Can’t get through on the phone.

Axa says this.

We are going to a country with 78 cases at the moment so does that mean it wouldn’t be covered?

Most countries now have some cases!!!

Has anyone bought travel insurance this week?

I bought travel insurance on the weekend from AXA which covers of the FCO advice again all but essential travel.

RubbishSwimmer · 12/03/2020 13:37

I bought mine a few weeks ago, but just noticed that they’re now not covering claims relating to coronavirus (inc if FCO advise against travel) if policy bought from today onwards.

Think that’s looking to be the industry standard, so perhaps too late.
