We're going to the cinema this weekend, would it be weird or sensible to take some anti bac wipes to clean the arm rests when we get to our seats? We'll all be eating/drinking

Are you going to anti-bac your sweet packets and straws too?

ImGoingSlightlyBrad · 12/03/2020 06:56

Anti bac wipes aren't going to kill a virus

Grufallosfriends · 12/03/2020 07:00

I would not go to the cinema. Way too many people close together - it only needs one person with the virus to infect everyone!

No antibacterial wipes can prevent that virus circulating!

w00dlander · 12/03/2020 08:03

Depends what film you're seeing.

We went on Sunday to see Onward and there were about 15 people in there.

We just say miles away from each other.

Wipe the arms if you want, don't buy any refreshments and don't touch doors with hands etc.

Freezingold · 12/03/2020 08:05

If they are also dettol or similar that kills viruses then it’s very sensible to wipe down the trays. Also wash your hands before popcorn and avoid opening doors after you have!

I’d start avoiding cinema for a while though.

Nquartz · 12/03/2020 10:09

We will take our own sweets & we already all use our sleeves to open doors (especially toilet doors after going) so I think we'll still go.

Probably the last time for a while!

Are you cleaning your sweet packets when you buy them from the shop? What about the insides of the packers?

Adviceplease1234 · 12/03/2020 11:42

@GiveHerHellFromUs isn't that logic is flawed? Yes you can't clean everything but surely cleaning what you can is going to help reduce the risk.

NotJustAnyFucker · 12/03/2020 11:45

Best get on to advertising standards about Dettol's claims then!

www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/transmission.html

The primary way the disease is spread is person-to-person, through respiratory droplets. Contaminated surfaces are not thought to be the primary way the disease spreads.

Grubby armrests are much less of a problem than being in close contact with others.

Poppydaisies · 12/03/2020 11:51

I honestly wouldn't go to the cinema. You're in a confined space for a coup of hours- ideal for viruses to spread!

Kraejka · 12/03/2020 11:53

I wouldn't be going to the cinema. Too many people in one place. I am in another European country (not Italy) and they have banned gatherings indoors of more than 100 people - that affects the cinemas too. The cinemas are selling only 100 tickets per showing and allocating seating so that people are spread out around the cinema and not altogether.

I'd postpone your cinema trip and have a film evening at home with some popcorn and sweets instead.
You might find that the government's upcoming announcement puts paid to your trip anyway depending on what they have decided this morning.

belay · 12/03/2020 12:03

Strangely I've just had an e mail from Cineworld about how they are dealing with this

GiveHerHellFromUs · 12/03/2020 12:30

@adviceplease1234 I agree you can't clean everything but if you're bothered enough to wipe down armrests at a cinema you'd surely consider the packaging that you're handling too?

If you're bothered enough to clean armrests surely you'd also not be happy sitting in a room full of strangers either?
