Denmark 14 day minimum lock down.

Two of my 2 sons live in Denmark and they both called last night to say that due to a 10-fold increase in diagnosed cases a minimum 14 day lock down has been declared. I was due to fly out Friday morning and now cannot go.

All schools, kindergarten and universities are closed. Public workers have been told to go home and all public/government offices are now closed to the public. All non-emergency health appointments are cancelled.

Train travel is only available with prebooked tickets and a ban on the overcrowding on buses (5C!) so no standing, seated only.

They can't take the kids swimming, to their library or to tivoli either as everywhere is closed!

I've laid bets on whose going to crack first, stuck at home with the kids 😂 (joking, obviously)

I'm in Sweden and I assume our government will be forced to follow suit soon, or atleast do something now that Denmark has.

OhhNo · 12/03/2020 05:37

I was just trying to find out up to date information for Sweden. I'm going to get grumpy as I've already packed my bags for tomorrow's flight with 6 nights booked in Sweden as its my grandson's 8th birthday so I'll miss the celebrations.

Danish Patient Safety Authority reported 442 new cases yesterday. That is a huge jump in daily diagnoses for such a small low-population country.

So far all that's happened in Sweden is a ban on gatherings of over 500 people. I expect that to change soon.

We just had the scandi equivalent of half term a few weeks ago with loads travelling down into europe which is what I assume caused the spike.

OP with the greatest respect people like you are part of the problem.
Health is more important than a holiday.
It's a selfish mindset.
Vulnerable people are at risk.

Namelessinseattle · 12/03/2020 05:48

How is she part of the problem? She's not going? I think she's allowed be disappointed

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 12/03/2020 05:54

I got home from Guides and MIL who had been babysitting pointed at the tv and said youve got 2 weeks holiday with pay.

I feel a bit scared because I havent lived through anytjing like this before. But it was actually really reassuring to see the pm taking sensible action.

So danish baby boom in 9 months and ive learned a new verb: to hamster = hoarding/panic buying. Presumably thats like squirrelling something away.

stella1know · 12/03/2020 06:04

Hopefully Germany will do more next. They are having political discussions about whether the central government or the regional states have the competence to set restrictions. It is causing a delay. But this Danish change is significant, thanks OP, and sorry you can’t see your sons right now. Its perfectly valid to be disappointed but it is probably better not to travel right now. Stay well and safe.
Mumsnet brings me the news that the newspapers don’t show.

DH is in Denmark. Due home soon, we know about the lockdown but not sure how it affects flights, industry yet. Sad

Patrick's Rum, with very little respect really, seeing as you either didn't read my post properly or you were just too excited to get a nasty stab in... Would you mind explaining how I am part of the problem? I was given information by my sons and shared it in case it was useful to potential travellers.

Health is more important than a holiday

Would you like to go back and read my post again?

It's a selfish mindset.

why is notifying people AND CANCELLING MY TRIP selfish?

Did you miss the bit saying I WAS going but am now *DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I MISS YET ANOTHER GRANDCHILDS BIRTHDAY"

Vulnerable people are at risk.

yes dear, I know they are, I am one of those people and it has been a very long wait (9.5 months) for me to be well enough to go anywhere, let alone on a bus, tram, metro or plane.

So, as you see, littlemissormisterknickersinstwist Patrick's Rum, I am not part of the problem, I am very disappointed and was informing people.

APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE else for the big letters; I didn't want Patrick's Rum to miss the important bits again.

Namelessinseattle thank you; you're right, I'm not going and am terribly disappointed 😔

4stella1know thank you, I was so excited as I've hardly been out since last May. Neither of my sons wanted to be the one to tell me!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale my daughter in law has been texting me all night as she said it's surreal and trying to work out who's telling my grandson I won't be there for his birthday after all. We only told him on Monday I am fit enough to travel.

What date is he due to fly home? I hope he doesn't get stranded

@OhhNo I'm referring to you flying to Sweden.
If all but essential flights were cancelled we probably wouldn't be in this position in the first place.
Threads from people still trying to fly to Italy up till a week ago.

OhhNo · 12/03/2020 10:35

PatricksRum it is annoying when someone is rude and accuses someone else of being selfish, being part of the problem and lacks the basic manners to apologise.

I was going to visit my sons, then driving to Sweden to celebrate my grandsons birthday.
