Do you think I should cancel my girl's birthday party?

She is in reception and there are about 20 children coming to the party this Saturday.

We've hired the entire village hall and there will be entertainers coming to engage the kids.

Now WHO announced pandemic, I am just not sure whether to cancel this or to carry on as normal.

Other parents don't seem to mind, and there will be only our children in the venue but I am just really not sure.

Any advice please? Thanks.

Hello, sounds like you should be able to manage handwashing etc fine, they're together at school anyway.. . I'd go ahead and have a lovely time Wink

As per the previous poster, ensure there is adequate and clear signs where hand washing is available. Have tissues, napkins and bins available.

I'm sure the entertainers will have their own hand washing / don't touch ppl procedures. Talk to them about it. Remind them where to wash their hands.

Accept that some parents may not bring their child (you wont know about their family health).

Happy birthday to your DD!

Thanks AndWhatNext. That's a good idea to encourage people to hand wash, etc.

If they're going to school on the Friday then I can't see any added danger with going to the party on Saturday

Thanks AvocadosBM. Good point and I think I was also worried about the entertainers, etc. (people coming to set up bouncy castle and so on).

I think as they are at school together the day before and no doubt on monday too then I would go ahead. My daughter's birthday is in the holidays and we were going to book her party for just after but have explained to her we are going to hold off booking anything until we know what is going to happen. She is older though, knows what is going on (well as much as any of us do) and understands the uncertainty.

I am in the same boat - birthday party on Saturday. The children are all in the same class so will all be together on Friday and Monday. Today I contacted the entertainer and checked they are happy to go ahead.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 12/03/2020 08:11

If you're going to worry about the entertainers then you may as well worry about going to the supermarket, park or similar.

The last thing self employed entertainers and so on need is people cancelling on them.

the pandemic name makes no difference to what is happening , just go ahead with it op

Schools are open. There’s no extra risk by holding this party.
