How long until things get back to normal?

I know the coronavirus hasn't even begun to reach its peak. I know it's a how long is a piece of string question & apologies for my innocence😊
At the moment life is relatively normal for myself & my hubby, no self isolation imposed yet etc.. however for our kids it's harder, sporting competions & birthday parties bring cancelled etc... We're telling them it's only for the short term & things will soon be back to normal if society pulls together to follow advice etc.... But how long is the question?

A year at least.

AlexaShutUp · 11/03/2020 22:36

Nobody knows. That's the honest truth.

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 22:37

We've got to get to the end of the Brexit transition yet.

Skyejuly · 11/03/2020 22:37

Its barely started :(

FarTooSkinny · 11/03/2020 22:37

Have you seen 28 weeks later? It'll be like that

NichyNoo · 11/03/2020 22:38

10 weeks according to political people I've been talking to in London today. Enough time for young & economically active to catch it then get back to work.

Crunched · 11/03/2020 22:39

Sporting events, such as the Grand Prix, are being postponed until October, but I think this is an estimate of the length of the issue rather than an exact science.

BecauseReasons · 11/03/2020 22:39

Some experts think it may eventually become endemic and then it'll be like flu, in that it's just a part of life.

PicsInRed · 11/03/2020 22:43

Naw it'll be fine. Just a scratch.

Wolfgirrl · 11/03/2020 22:44

@FarTooSkinny stop it Grin I was saying today that's actually my worst nightmare, nobody ever needs fast zombies ever.

Just to confirm I dont believe for a second that would actually happen, coronavirus or not!

I'm fed up now, fed up of coronavirus, fed up of storms, everything seems so grey and oppressive at the moment. I'm worried about elderly and sick people I know and feel powerless to protect them.

So hopefully soon Smile if I were to make an amateur guess based on absolutely nothing I would say 2 months. Not sure why it just feels right. But who knows Sad

ShanghaiDiva · 11/03/2020 22:54

In my province in China, restrictions were introduced around 25th January and schools are still closed, but shops open and people back at work. Some restaurants are open. There are strict quarantine regulations for people coming back to China from overseas so I would need to self quarantine even if I have no symptoms.
So we are six weeks in and still waiting. I think May at the earliest for things to feel normal in my city and longer still for Hubei.

peppersneezes000 · 12/03/2020 00:12

Thank you Shanghai diva, that's really helpful, we're about 2 months behind bsi realistically we're looking at July so🙈 there have been no lockdowns in the UK or Ireland yet so I'd expect things to escalate dramatically.
Glad to hear the situation is improving in China x

Early June at least before it slows. I reckon we will reach 15,000 affected in 3 weeks.

Egghead68 · 12/03/2020 01:07

At least 3 months before it improves I think.

DressingGownofDoom · 12/03/2020 01:10

Yes June/July depending on what kind of summer we get and how the virus responds to it. Even then it'll be a new normal. Most people didn't really gave a shit about infection control here before.

Mum2threejs · 12/03/2020 01:59

Wuhan went in to lockdown in January they said on the news it will be May before all the restrictions get lifted...........

oodlemynoodledoodle · 12/03/2020 02:20

I'm supposed to be flying to Vegas to get married in very early June 😩

plinkplinkfizzer · 12/03/2020 03:20

Depends on how the illness affects you, your new normal might be elsewhere...

SnoozyLou · 12/03/2020 06:37

I can't remember who "they" were but some experts suggested mid June.

The health minister (who now has it) predicted it could peak in 2 weeks, which sounds extremely optimistic.

When you've got the government telling people it can't survive long outdoors, when studies show it can live for up to 9 days, and giving the all clear for sporting events bringing together 10s of 1000s of people, I don't think we've got a hope in hell.

I'm not for going into lockdown now but we could be taking a few sensible steps.

bellinisurge · 12/03/2020 06:51

May I gently observe that it hasn't really started yet.

peppersneezes000 · 12/03/2020 10:26

Yes totally understand it hasn't really started but my kids are young & they are fed up😟 I don't think they understand how serious it all is. We cancelled our holiday to Italy so now I just want to reassure them activities etc will be back to normal soon. I'm thinking June also before things begin to relax x
