Concerned NDN Coronavirus

Am prob being dramatic. My elderly next door neighbour went away on holiday to Mexico for about 3 weeks, they just got back today. Should I be concerned that they could have it or even be carriers of covid?
Would they have had any tests done at the airport to clear them?

Are you planning on kissing them? Hugging on the drive? Sharing a kitchen?

It’s not going to leap through walls...

YABU. Mexico has 7 confirmed cases which is significantly less than the UK has.

CastleCrasher · 11/03/2020 22:05

Even taking the alleged under reporting into account, comparing to Brazil, it looks like they have fewer cases than England - am I missing something as to why they'd be more likely to have it than any random person in the supermarket for example? (Granted I'd not be keen on being in an airport at the moment....)

You are being far far too dramatic. And there is a Coronavirus topic for posting in.

Symbollove · 11/03/2020 22:18

Sorry am not all that aware of all the topics here, I only use mumsnet occasionally, if I was glued to it no doubt I would be aware of the extra topic that's been added.

Anyway you don't have to hug and kiss in order to transmit, it's airborne so simply being a small distance away from them when I am taking the bins out for example could have an impact.

Reason why I would be more wary of them is because they would've been in contact with lots and lots of people from all around the world in the airports.

My mums home town has just reported its first case.

Just stand further back from them when putting the bins out.

Yes, neighbourly concern is a good thing, and these who are ill may well end up depending on their neighbiutprs and friends. Use this time to think about what you could do, and how you could do it, for these neighbours, or others or family and friends.

Would they have had any tests done at the airport to clear them?

No. But as the asymptomatic incubation period can last 14 days, then testing at the airport isn't going to give then an all-clear. But it is right to note that the airport was probably the riskiest time for exposure, even more so if it was Heathrow and they took the Tube.

I wouldn’t be worried at all. You’re now more likely , statistically, to catch it from other folk than neighbours who have just returned from Mexico.

We're just moving this over to the right topic now. Flowers
