Just wondering what the attitude is with going swimming. Are people just continuing with their children's swimming lessons?

Last lesson was cancelled (they didn't say why) but yes we'll continue going.

Yes we are still going!

We're still going, for now. We've had an update from our swim school with the now familiar advice about washing our hands, not attending if we have symptoms or have been to any of the countries on the list, and assuring us there are no suspected cases associated with the venue.

DD is still going to school, which I would think poses more of a risk. If and when the schools close we'll take a view on swimming, assuming it doesn't stop at the same time anyway.

Yes we are keeping up with all activities while school is open. If that changes I'll have to reassess if we stop.

We are continuing (in fact I've been for a swim myself this morning)

I was listening to a scientist yesterday on the radio and he was saying as long as the pool is chlorinated to correct levels it's fine to keep swimming. Just remember the virus may still be on door handles/lockers/toilet doors etc.

Think I'm more worried about sitting in close proximity with 10-15 other parents squished on a bench as there is no where else to sit or stand.

As I had assumed that the chlorine would kill all bacteria

I am wondering go about this . Would you change your mi d about swimming if there had been a confirmed case in your town ?

Report
LemonSucker · 11/03/2020 16:26

No I am not going. Not keen on the idea of swimming in coronasoupGrin

Report
Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 16:27

Chlorine doesn't kill evrrything. Not sure about this but Guardia and some other diarrhoea one.
I think children are higher risk in the pool as more likely to swallow water

Swim England advice

There are a lot of very busy swim meets being held this weekend.

We got the swim england advice from our club too. DS has a gala to go to on Saturday and training is proceeding as normal.

There are a lot of people looking to get qualifying times at this time of year.

Hai , anyone sending children to swimming classes

I’m going myself and it’s been very well organised. Booking slots so only a few people, one way system for changing etc.

Kids still doing lessons and these have changed to be more socially distant.

Report
Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/10/2020 19:13

Mine is back at lessons.

Report
Deelish75 · 27/10/2020 19:27

DD went to some during the summer holidays, she was supposed to move up but due to social distancing there isn’t enough space in that class. (Now on the waiting list)
I go myself weekly and it fine. The cubicles and lockers are numbered and we’re told which one to use. They are cleaned before and afterwards - I feel it is as safe as they can make it.

Yes we’re still going. Dc are still at school etc so 30 mins swimming feels very minor compared to that.

They’re still doing other clubs dance etc too.

I try to take my 6 month old swimming once a week, he loves it, he's turning into a proper little water baby. Was chatting to another mum in the pool a few weeks ago saying we've never seen the place so quiet or so clean - a covid silver lining!

Yes ds and I go every week. I think swallowing the water is probably a good thing, as the chlorine will kill anything you've breathed in. I don't use the changing rooms currently but might start soon as it will be too cold to come out wet.

Tier 3 area , my ds is back at swimming lessons. They need to arrive ready to swim ( costumes under clothes undress poolside) temperature checks on arrival, separate changing areas after the lessons, parents to wear a mask at all times

Parents aren't allowed to sit indoors where we are; parents have to wait outside. It's presumed that's in a car. The kids are chucked out the door in wet costumes, barefoot soaking wet so I imagine no one is taking kid to lessons unless they have a car to whisk child into.

Still going.

But I haven't arranged swimming lessons yet (we left our last school anyway just before lockdown for various un covid related reasons).

I don't want to book new ones now as I fear we will end up having more restrictions and I'll just lose the money. If that wasn't likely (in my view) I'd go ahead.

We still go swimming though but we are extremely lucky to live next to a swimming pool so always got changed and showered at home anyway before all this.

DS has only had one swimming since March (was last week). It's now half term and I'm in Wales so we're locked down again. The swim school doesn't know when they'll be able to reopen again ...

Yes, still taking both DD swimming. DD1 goes in the water on her own, small pool, all lessons are staggered so that there aren't lots of parents arriving/leaving at the same tmime. There are benches around the pool and only 1 parent is allowed on, there are enough for 1 each based on the numbers. Masks have to be worn, instructors wear visors. All feels very safe.
DD2 I still go in with her. Lessons at a hotel pool. Restricted numbers, masks worn until the pool, instructor doesn't get in the water, distanced in the pool from other parents, restricted lockers are available so that they are spread out, again feels very safe. I will continue as long as we can (tier 2 on the verge of 3 so suspect they will be cancelled soon).
