Holiday at Easter in UK - cancel?

Hi,

I am getting more concerned by the minute about life in general and how things are going to work out. On one hand, the scale of what is going on in the world is massive but on the other it’s so hard to believe that life as we know it might shut down in a similar way here.

I have a cottage booked for a week at Easter around 3 hours from home. The balance is due to be paid today but I really don’t know what to do! Should we be cancelling? Should we plan to go still but be ready to scale back on activities , meals out etc? We could be in lockdown by then.….

Anyone else in the same situation? Some feedback from others would be so helpful. Thanks.

Personally I'd cancel.
Are you going to enjoy this holiday break or are you going to be anxious.
I think the fact you're asking tells you really deep down what you need to do.

We're going to Bluestone in April. Certainly not planning to cancel unless things take a dramatic turn before then.

Personally I think everyone should cancel holidays in the Uk or elsewhere. The risk to you in going may be very low, but if you live in a city then you might carry the virus to a more vulnerable rural area.
I live in a pretty area popular with tourists, but the residents are generally older than average, and healthcare here is a problem, like many rural areas there is no hospital within an hour’s drive, and that is usually overrun as it covers a huge area.
Any movement of people spreads the virus. We all need to stay put as much as possible.
I have ended all social things, and the only thing I have done this week is go to the dentist, yet I have still managed to catch a cold, in spite of handwashing, being really careful etc. This virus is so much more contagious that we all as a country need to stop and wait to protect others as well as ourselves.

Oh and I live close to Bluestone, it will be packed. 😢

This area is going to be in terrible trouble after Easter, as all the tourists will spread the virus round. Every other house here has someone elderly in it. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Please think of this before you visit anywhere rural with similar health care issues and an older populace.

We were booked to go to Legoland at the end of Easter - I've already told the kids that unless there's some kind of miracle, it's off.

We're in Ireland, so we were flying over and planning to stay with grandparents, but I can't imagine we'll be doing that now. I haven't cancelled everything yet, but I can't see why I would risk spreading anything to my, or DP's parents.

We we're due to travel 2 hours from home for an Easter break at a holiday park. We're 70% sure that we're not going.

I feel like we'd have to deep clean our accomodation, stay away from busy play areas , pools and restaurants. So we'd essentially be packing and travelling to do housework and sit in a caravan eating fish and chips...I'd rather lose £500 to be honest.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 11/03/2020 10:36

Also we could possibly be helping to spread the virus from London to a quiet seaside town with very few cases if we go. I feel that that's irresponsible.

If you are going to a cottage, can't you just clean when you get there to be reassured, eat in the cottage and spend time outside, weather permitting, where you aren't in close contact with people any more than you would be at home?

We didn't have a holiday booked anyway as we can't afford it this year, but we were planning a couple of big days out to theme parks etc. Kids have really looked forward to this and we will still do it provided the places stay open. But obviously if they close then the decision is made for us !
One of my kids is due to do NCS in June/July, and I have a feeling that could be cancelled too.

We have booked to visit family over Easter, not sure if it will come off or not
