I work part time and am due in an educational setting tomorrow. I have had a sore throat and cough since last Thursday. This continued over the weekend with tiredness and then continued into this week. I still have a cough but it is drying up, but I finding it difficult to swallow, have sneezes and a seriously snotty nose. I have mild asthma so finding it difficult to breathe but today feel like an elephant is sat on my chest.

Am I panicking? No fever or temperature as yet that I've noticed

If you’ve not been in contact with someone who has confirmed case of Coronavirus or been abroad to the risk areas then you don’t need to.

This ship has sailed. It's in the UK. Anyone can get it.

Perhaps @shinycat is trying to avoid seeing threads on this topic. Please don't all leap on her/ him, we don't know their reason for that.

Kwkwjwkek · 11/03/2020 00:43

@Maythelordopen1 @TiddyTid
Yes but according to current guidelines they wouldn’t meet the criteria and so wouldn’t be tested. That’s what she’d be told if she rang 111.
Even the online service 111.nhs.uk/covid-19. If you select no to not travelled outside uk in last 14 days, no to not been in contact with a confirmed case, it says that you do not need to speak to 111. But you can check your symptoms out.

Obviously there are many cases of people who haven’t been abroad etc. But for some reason they are not testing anyone who suspects they might have it.

Hi @carrottopper we're moving this over to the Coronavirus for you. Flowers

Maythelordopen1 · 11/03/2020 08:43

@Kwkwjwkek I’m in Ireland so maybe the guidelines are different? Anyway the man I speak about was actually already in inpatient at the hospital and the tested him as a last resort (the were skeptical I think due to the fact that he was not abroad and they had visiting restrictions) but lo and behold...he had it.

To be honest it proves my theory of...it has been here since Christmas we just didn’t know it.

cinammonbuns · 11/03/2020 09:29

@maythelordpen1 no it doesn’t prove your theory at all actually? What evidence do you have that it’s as here since Christmas.

It wasn’t even detectable in a China till January.

Maythelordopen1 · 11/03/2020 09:34

Detectable in January... but I have several friends in live/work in china who knew something was wrong in NOVEMBER! Several of those ppl came home for a visit around Christmas/new year and Chinese New Year...and then the news broke.

Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 09:49

I agree China had it in nov.
There was a weird but here early dec.
Dd (4) got it then me. She had a fever mon. Then mostly ok a few days then Thursday didn't want to be at nursery.
I got ill Thursday and felt awful with fevers and chills straight to green snot. Felt I'll for about 2w but later had conjuntivitis.

We are ill again now and Dd had fever Sun last week and for a few days with lethargy and a very small vomit then started to get a slight runny nose but it was very thick and green. Still no real cough. But that might reflect kids getting differently.
I then felt feverish Tuesday night.so waiting on other symptoms. Nervously.

carrottopper · 13/03/2020 03:18

Well I started with a cough last Thursday. And snotty nose. Been full of cold all weekend and ridiculous sneezes. Monday felt worse like an elephant was sat on my chest. Wednesday felt completely exhausted and called in sick to work. I'm off this week. Spent most of yesterday coughing, struggling to breath and stay awake. 111 was just the message that if I hadn't been to another country etc it probably wasn't. I've had all symptoms but the fever. Should I call my dr in the morning? Breathing is hard and this dry cough is annoying.

Self-isolate from today.
If you feel really bad contact NHS 111 online.
There is a bit about coughs because most drag out for a while generally. No need to self-isolate further than 7 days once the other symptoms have gone.
Hope you feel better soon.

Should I be self isolating?
carrottopper · 13/03/2020 07:57

Thank you. I know the guidance says to self isolate if you have a new symptom eg cough. Mine isn't new- been there since last Thursday but I'm off work anyway as feel so rubbish
