What are the scenarios?

I’m like a rollercoaster at the moment going from everything will be fine to it’s the apocalypse! To try and feel less anxious I’m trying to work out what the various scenarios might be
So far I have

  • it’s a storm in a teacup and life will carry on as normal, like a normal bad flu season
  • it’s the end of the world in and in 6 months there will only be 10% of the population left and the survivors will be roaming around and killing each other over the last time of baked beans
  • the whole country will go on complete lockdown like Wuhan
  • the whole country will go on lockdown like Italy
  • schools will close, large gatherings will be banned but life will otherwise go on

I think if I can go over all the options and know I have a vague plan for each of them it will stop me spiralling into panic!

I’ve been wondering exactly the same thing...

Why do you think it would kill that many people? We know the death rate.. it's sitting at something like 1-2%. Look carefully at the numbers from the countries who've already had outbreaks. Do what you can, within reason, to stop getting sick, such as hand washing at every opportunity.

Yes it's serious and that's why we should take precautions, to stop as many elderly and vulnerable from getting sick as possible.

No, it's not an apocalypse and no, 90% of the population is not about to die.

with all the self isolating i will wager that in 9 months time there will be a baby boom
global bb boom.
as they age they will be know as the pandemic generation.

I think we will go into lockdown and things will be tough. There will be a lot of challenges. What is happening in Italy sounds horrific and I fear that our NHS ( great though it is) is not going to cope if faced with the same number of very sick people. I worry for lone parents without support, people with little resources and pets whose elderly owners get sick. I think there will be a lot of pulling together to help out where needed.

Also the knock on effects - lots of elderly people care for elderly spouses or disabled grown up children or grand children. There could be huge pressure on social services etc
