Cancel holiday to Turkey?

We have a family holiday booked to Turkey beginning of April. Financial losses aside would it be prudent just to cancel? Not aware of any cases yet in Turkey but of course things are changing on a daily basis.

None of us are in a high risk category but I have a very frail mother at home. Also the thought of being quarantined or even worse hospitalised for a serious illness in a country such as Turkey worries me.

No clue what to do for the best.

No actually advice but to say I’m in much the same boat. Holiday to turkey booked for June, turkey seems to have next to no cases but it’s being trapped in their health care system- as I
Know nothing about it- that scares me. At least in Europe I would know what you expect. Our balance is due beginning of April, undecided as to pay or write off the deposit.

Snap. But given turkey’s recent travel restrictions wrt other countries affected by the virus it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t allow us entry anyway.

Thats exactly my thoughts @OnlyFoolsnMothers
You kind of know what you're getting with European health services, but not so much with places like Turkey.

Would be at least some comfort if the FCO advised against going there and I'd know to just forget about the hol. Feel like we're currently in limbo

I wouldn’t risk it. My partner needed emergency medical treatment in Turkey a few years ago and his experience was pretty bad. I wouldn’t want to get sick or be quarantined there

If travel restrictions get put in place I’m almost tempted to pay the whole thing so my insurance pays us all back to us.

I’ve asked friends advice and they all just say it can’t be that bad as everyone goes there for plastic surgery Hmm

I wouldn't risk it either. Not only the risk of transmitting the virus but of possibly not allowed to enter Turkey or being quarantined there.

Turkish healthcare outside of Istanbul is shit. Would strongly suggest not going

Turkey have ONE case. Just one. I would totally go. Your risk is higher in the U.K.

Ohhh sorry, I'm being really stupid. You could potentially take it to turkey. Yeah maybe I wouldn't go after all. Tbh I never really thought of that at first!

I wouldn't believe the figures quoted by Turkey with regards to how many cases they have. Just look at how quickly it's spreading in other countries.

I understand they are checking temperatures on arrival- but imagine if my child’s a little hot on arrival but otherwise healthy, we’ll be quarantined?!

You're absolutely right @bemoreeverything and selfishly I hadn't thought about it that way either Blush

I also feel really bad for my friend who is coming with us. She is a single mum and has been saving and scrimping for ages to pay for the holiday. Likely she'll lose it all and no holiday Sad
