Am I being mental to cancel clubs?

I’ve been pretty relaxed about Coronavirus but seeing how bad Italy is getting I’m starting to freak a bit. Do you think I’d be mental to stop kids extracurricular activities for a while? They do gym, dancing, an 11plus Saturday school thing and brownies. I know they still going to school and my mum says for that reason might as well carry on, but the clubs have kids from loads of schools so mixing with even wider groups. What are your views?

Me and DH are also having this discussion. Torn between 'seems sensible to reduce contact with people wherever possible' to 'but she'll still be going to school, so does it matter'

No conclusion reached yet!

How many confirmed cases are there near you? There's currently only 2 in our entire county so we're going to continue with all clubs/groups for now but will reassess as & when.

I've made the call today to not do any more extracurricular stuff that isn't at the school.

My rationale is whilst school is not essential it is a lot more worth the risk than the extra curricular stuff. Plus at school it is the same kids every day (small prep school) where as all the other activities bring a whole load of new germs into the mix.

I'm not re-enroling for next term simply because extra curriculars and afterschool/holiday clubs will likely be shut down along with schools. Prepaid money would be unlikely to be returned, especially if those businesses don't survive. Sad but true.

We’ve had the same discussion.
No cases in our county to date so we’re carrying in as normal but being more vigilant about hand washing and taking inhalers (one asthmatic ds)
It’s so hard to know what to do for the best.

Thanks for your posts guys. We are in the South East and there have been quite a few near us. A school just up the road has been closed today as a child has contracted it. I'm going to cancel everything until this calms down. I'm getting really worried now!

We had an aircon guy in the office today coughing everywhere - every sniffle is freaking me out!
