Can I withdraw my DD from school?

Advise needed.
My Dd is in her final year of her A levels.
She does not have a father and very few close relatives who are not in the Uk.
I am over 60 and believe in a risk category. It is
not a problem for me to stay and work from home but there is a risk that the virus can be brought home from school.
I wonder if I could request to withdraw her from attending and study from home. Is she going to be penalised?

She can’t be fined as over 16. But would struggle to complete her a levels from home.

She probably only has 2-3 weeks of teaching left. It could affect her grades not to attend as this is when exam technique and identifying areas for revision is covered. Are you really high risk? You cannot really coop her up for weeks on end.

At this point I am not bothered about her grades. Her life will turn into a tragedy should she have to bury her only parent. at the age of 18 and during the exam period at that.

Can you manage with being extra careful? Like asking DD to shower straight after coming home and washing uniform every day?

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 21:24

You can get it by being too close to people if they cough etc.
I front know really they need to shut the schools

AudacityOfHope · 10/03/2020 21:25

Isn't she bothered about her grades though? Confused When is going to be allowed to resume her life? If this is ongoing for months, or becomes a seasonal hazard are you just going to stop her going outside?

You really can't live assuming you're about to die. Just live!

I'm afraid I think you are being ludicrous.

Unless there has ebeen a case in the school then there is no reason to withdraw her or think that she or you are at risk

Abibranning · 10/03/2020 21:28

If you are that concerned self isolate. Do not limit her future.

WinterCat · 10/03/2020 21:28

Why don’t you follow the NHS’s advice on self isolating and let your DD continue with her studies.

Abibranning · 10/03/2020 21:29

@WinterCat snapGrin

Can she not go stay with a friend? That removes the risk from you but doesn't jeopardise her grades.

A level results can mean a lot for future prospects so I would be VERY hesitant to take her out of school for 2-3 weeks of teaching

ScorpionQueen · 10/03/2020 22:11

I would see if she can stay with a friend. I know I would take in one of dd's friends if they were in this situation.
