What are your work doing?

Didn't see a thread on this but apologies if there is!

Given that it's become more serious and people are more panicked, what are your work doing?

I work in Central London in finance. People with a cold are not even allowed in and must work from home. Anyone who feels uncomfortable can also work from home. All travel to Italy is banned and there's restrictions on Asian countries.

I personally am not worried at all, but I do love working from home!

What about you?

We’ve closed down as of Monday for 3 months. I don’t think we can be redeployed so we will not get paid.

Magicshoppingtrolley · 10/03/2020 19:01

Medium NW based company. Doing loads! Posters, hand washing training, bought bulk sanitisers, tissues and wipes. Updating intranet daily with latest news, new business contingency plan in place. Extra laptops ordered and everyone’s been asked to update the company on their contact details, travel plans. Some people asked to self-isolate or work from home.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/03/2020 19:05

Literally nothing. And I work for a care company.

helpme7 · 10/03/2020 19:14

Our work social tomorrow in a popular bar in London has been cancelled because of the virus (postponed for a month)!!

I work at a popular chain restaurant
We have a contingency plan so lots of advice on self isolation if you've traveled or been in contact with someone

Extra guidance and signs on hand washing, the sanitizer contact time has massively increased to 5 mins and were sanitising all hard contact points twice a day

I still don't think we'll be able to avoid it though, we serve so many members of the public in and out all day Confused

Titsywoo · 10/03/2020 19:26

DH's company are looking to close their offices in London and have everyone working from home from early next week. They have also cancelled all travel and meetings.

My work is very small and all we have done so far is add hand sanitiser dispensers by the front and back doors. I could work from home if necessary though.

eggstrordinaire · 10/03/2020 19:29

Central London third sector. We are stress testing the server with a working from home day. Hand sanitiser on everyone's desk. Individual conversations by managers with staff especially those with vulnerabilities about working from home - full flexibility allowed (but hard to do as doesn't really seem fair on front line staff).

eggstrordinaire · 10/03/2020 19:30

Anyone returning from country if concern was asked to self isolate.

FinallyHere · 10/03/2020 19:51

Travel ban, encouraged to teleconference instead. Ban on visiting sites. Tests underway for large scale working from home

Hoping for prolonged period of working from home esp while DH who usually travels a lot to Italy or California is grounded at hone.

Sorry for anyone really struggling.

TheMemoryLingers · 10/03/2020 19:58

I work in Tesco. I'll be there getting shouted at because I won't let someone buy 23 packs of toilet roll and 76 bags of pasta.

Grin

Where I work - restrictions on travel and meetings, and there's a dedicated helpline for managers to call for guidance on specific situations. Supposed to be getting a supply of hand sanitiser but it's delayed by shortages. Hand washing posters have gone up all over the place. They've also been refreshing all the business continuity info - I get the impression quite a lot is going on behind the scenes, which is reassuring.

mamapants · 10/03/2020 19:58

Work for Local Authority no cases here.
They have installed extra sanitiser dispenser, care homes etc are requesting extra but they can't source anymore now.
Posters about catch it bin it, hand washing etc. Email every few days linking to public health info.
Am sure management are also making additional plans I'm not privy to.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/03/2020 20:03

I’m a lecturer. We had an email about handwashing, last week, and there are posters about people who have travelled from China, Italy etc and are showing symptoms. That’s it. There are two confirmed cases locally.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/03/2020 20:12

DH's firm have issued everyone with a laptop and are going to do a stress test this week with everyone working from home to see if their IT system can cope. DH thinks this will have a long term effect on their working procedures once this crisis is over eg less group meetings at different offices use Skype or similar instead, more working from home.

FecktheBoss · 10/03/2020 20:19

LA, we now have catch it, bin it, kill it on our desktops. No hot water in toilets though!

CoffeeRunner · 10/03/2020 20:23

I also work in an NHS hospital. Nothing has changed apart from portakabins (pods) in the A&E car park.

There are confirmed cases in the hospital. But they are not on general wards - both in ITU. Although once the virus spreads, that will have to change. There simply will not be enough ITU beds!

needmorecoffeeandcake · 10/03/2020 20:25

Teacher. Nothing at all beyond asking children to wash their hands more often.

Zampa · 10/03/2020 20:29

I'm sorry to hear that @Egghead68. Are you in the airline industry? Are your work offering any kind of support?

Egghead68 · 10/03/2020 20:33

No - I’m in NHS outpatients but I wouldn’t be any use with inpatients so they can’t redeploy me. I don’t mind living off my savings if it comes to it. Main thing is to stay safe.

PurpleCrocus2020 · 10/03/2020 20:34

I work in a school in Scotland. They are doing nothing except tell us that we cannot self isolate and have put a plan in place if 20% of the staff are off sick. Basically they will fill the classes with children from other classes whose teachers are sick until all the staff drop with Coronavirus. I’m hoping the schools close soon as there are so many people with colds/flu like symptoms.

Egghead68 · 10/03/2020 20:35

Basically they will fill the classes with children from other classes whose teachers are sick until all the staff drop with Coronavirus

That’s awful.

BellatrixLestat · 10/03/2020 20:36

Nothing, other than hand hygiene. Extra Sanitiser provided. No option to work from home either.

Though I work in an industry that cannot just 'shut down' and send everybody home so we just have to get on with it.

Ohhhh · 10/03/2020 20:38

Notices on each floor, on each door and in every toilet about washing hands. We've had hand sanitizer on desks for months due to hot-decking policy but we also now have antibacterial and antiviral wipes. Trialling working from home this week to see what impact this has on customers and whether our IT systems can cope! Several hundred employees have been issued laptops over last 2 months Shock it's almost like they knew! All travel banned and anyone showing any cold/flu like symptoms are told to self isolate. They are taking it very seriously!

BellatrixLestat · 10/03/2020 20:38

I work in a school in Scotland. They are doing nothing except tell us that we cannot self isolate

Can they legally do this when the government have special measures in place to contain the virus?

If you're in a union I'd contact your rep or even PHE for advice. Working with children especially! Telling people not to self isolate when that is the official health advice is ridiculous.

OntheWaves40 · 10/03/2020 20:38

I work at a private school. They are doing absolutely bugger all so far.

Floooy174 · 10/03/2020 20:42

My company have put a poster up and sent an email. I’m sure just enough to cover their arses and tick another box. The email actually said if you choose to self isolate for no reason you will not be paid and will face disciplinary action if you refuse to come back to work after a reasonable period of time. Nothing like a bit of empathy! Grin
