Thousands get killed on the roads but we don't stop driving....

This argument Angry

How about if the amount of deaths on the road increased ten fold all of a sudden, and we were told to expect the number to rise significantly. I'd like to see then how many would happily get behind the wheel.

Anymore bonkers arguments you've come across?

That my MIL used a minute to cut chicken and then butter bread and they survived

youareatwatadmitit · 10/03/2020 08:54

"It's only flu" can fuck right off. I swear, the next person to write that 🤬

crosser62 · 10/03/2020 08:55

Millions have the clap but millions still don’t wear condoms!

ElderAve · 10/03/2020 09:04

"Thousands" dont die on the roads. UK road deaths average less than 1800 pa and major steps were taken more than two decades ago to reduce the death rate significantly.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/03/2020 09:04

Someone @ed me with that very argument the other day.
If you had a one in twenty chance of death every time you got in a car I don’t think many of us would be driving.....

JulietteLeGall · 10/03/2020 09:11

'If you had a one in twenty chance of death every time you got in a car I don’t think many of us would be driving.....'

Precisely! I just don't get the lack of acceptance, it's like a competition to see who can be the least bothered.

I haven't stockpiled, but I always have enough in to see us through a couple of weeks, but I will laugh at those needing to isolate after banging on about the idiots buying loo roll and boasting about how they survive on one roll between 5 for weeks - lets see how that works out for you...

The argument that there’s no point not going on the holiday to Italy they’ve booked for next month because the U.K. will have loads more cases by then.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 09:15

Well no one with a bit of awareness runs headlong into traffic with their eyes shut, do they? That’s what it feels like some people are doing regarding COVID19. You look left and right, you stop for traffic and you try to fucking avoid getting hit by the car!

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 09:15

It’s ok all the nay sayers won’t want to borrow any food or toilet roll when all the supply chains are broken will they?

It’s simple economics. Like people who roll their eyes at buying pasta. Italians grow a lot of durum wheat for the pasta and produce most of the tomatoes along with Spain. It’s not rocket science.

coconuttelegraph · 10/03/2020 09:16

Where is the 1 in 20 coming from?

Is that the death rate in the older population? If so it's not comparable to the risk of being killed in a car accident. Unless the whole population is infected your risk of dying at your age is miniscule surely.

They won’t have to, because apparently the preppers will be expected to share if there’s a shortage or we’re really selfish. Hmm

We’re ‘hysterical’ and selfish for prepping for something that won’t happen, but also selfish for not sharing with those didn’t prep for the thing that won’t happen, if the thing that won’t happen, happens. Grin

I think it's the uncertainly that's causing most distress. I dont know what you can do about it but few of us are really comfortable with spontaneity, so people want to know things will carry on as usual.

It is possible that by next month Italy will be safer than UK, with them being in recovery from a short sharp shock, as they failed to contain it and us just entering the worst period.

peanutbear · 10/03/2020 09:26

Do you not think it's incredibly selfish that people are emptying shelves?
They elderly and sick are most at risk and they are usually the people living week by week

I am taking the risk of the virus seriously DH company is conferences and exhibitions we are being very hard hit at the moment.

However the poster above who doesn't want to share toilet roll quite honestly make me angry let's hope you do t need help someone else can offer. I bet you'd be the first to expected to be helped.

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 09:28

You can get toilet roll delivered. You can buy it online people do know that?

slipperywhensparticus · 10/03/2020 09:30

It's the common cold apparently

We will a get it eventually so taking measures wont help

It's only people with pre existing healthcare issues that need to worry said right to my face knowing that I have one and I'm a single parent to two children who would end up in the system if I die

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 09:32

Yes it’s just the common cold Confused. I give up bye.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 09:35

I’m a prepper so haven’t been stripping shelves of food, but although I will be doing some, under cover of darkness, food and toiletry secret drop offs to elderly neighbours without support, I won’t be sharing in general and I won’t be advertising that I have a filled pantry. If I do that, then where do I draw the line? Is it when I’m down to my last meal, toiletry for my own vulnerable family? I really feel sorry for genuinely vulnerable people, including those struggling financially and I will help them, but as for those who could but didn’t prepare, I’ve little sympathy.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 09:40

I know what you mean, slippery. I’ve had that too.
Oh, it’s alright, it’s only dangerous for vulnerable people. Just people like my oldest boy and youngest girl and her two best friends in the world, with their heart conditions. I’m fucking terrified for them. This attitude stinks. At a time lie this we should be protecting the most vulnerable in society, not taking about them as if they’re disposable.

KaptenKrusty · 10/03/2020 09:43

The one where we should close all the schools, even if it means you have to quit your job to look after your kids - and hide in our houses indefinitely and cancel holidays that aren't even until the bloody summer..

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 09:46

KaptanKrusry, I can completely understand why people don’t want schools closed, but I also think that, during this spread, parents should be permitted to keep their children at home, without being penalised. Those in charge of schools should suspend all the attendance rules and fines. Parents should be given a choice.

DameHannahRelf · 10/03/2020 09:47

Also the UK Govt make people sit two tests before they can drive a car, without another qualified driver present and ready to intervene. The car legally has to carry L plates, (so people know there's a learner driving), and R plates once they've passed.
The practical test alone takes on average 20-40 hours practice time behind a wheel? -Can you tell I'm raging I failed mine recently. The car has to be mot'd to insure it's road worthy, insured (and taxed). Children are taught about road safety from they can walk. Any random person can't just drive any car, on a whim.

I think it's madness we have the advantage of being an Island, but aren't testing the people on return flights at least.

KaptenKrusty · 10/03/2020 09:49

Totally agree that if you want to keep the kids off you should be allowed to - they are your kids! @T0tallyFuckedUpFamily

But it should be a choice rather than forced

Also I think this call for everything to shut or "lockdown" is over the top = the people who want that should just stay home and leave the rest of us to it if we want to take the "risk"

SnoozyLou · 10/03/2020 10:01

It’s ok all the nay sayers won’t want to borrow any food or toilet roll when all the supply chains are broken will they?

I'm not sure I believe them anyway. The same people spout this "be kind" mantra, then 2 posts later start swearing at anyone that doesn't agree with them like Roy Chubby Brown on steroids.
