If we do have to go on lockdown do you think we will be able to go out and walk our dogs each day?

Probably. Just cover your nose and mouth when out with a slice of wafer thin ham.

I work as a dog walker so this interests me. I think it would most likely be ok but we would have to take government advice.

If dog walks are limited or banned we would obviously have to abide by this.

There are lots of things you can do in your garden if you have one, or even in the home to stimulate your dog, get it using its brain and tire it out. I appreciate this isn't ideal, but needs must......

Toileting could be a challenge for those with no gardens!

I have read advice here in Ireland that says you can go out for walks. You won't be in what's considered close contact with someone if you're out for a walk.

Surely it will be more difficult for those living in crowded towns and cities? I live in a semi-rural village, I have fields opposite my house, I’m sure even in lock down it would be ok to walk over the fields as I very rarely see people.
peoplepleaser1 I am a dog walker too.

I am in lockdown at the moment. You can go out for walks as long as you keep your distance from other people.

The word lockdown unfortunately has connotations in English and the UK context that aren't strictly comparable to the "contagion control measures" in Italy.
I work in education in both the UK and Italy so know that "lockdown" as part of terrorist/nutter on campus/etc has a totally different and terrifying impact.
That is NOT what is happening here, but the redtops and social media rentagobs get more clicks by calling it a "total lockdown" than saying "restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid 19"

Yes, people can walk dogs
Shops are open
People are at work.

There's a difference between an individual being in self isolation, and a whole area being on lockdown, ime.
Self isolation should mean not going out at all, and taking very robust precautions within the home if another household member needs to go out (DH and I are planning to isolate together if one of us had to)
Area wide lock down allows for essential trips out and about within that area, with social distancing being priority.
What is considered essential is still widely debated I think, but looking after vulnerable relatives is included. I hope care of livestock is too.
I am a bit horrified that planes are still flying in from Italy though, with no precautions taken at this end bar a bit of 'advising to self isolate'.

I was surprised that planes have been coming in from Italy although I read this morning that Italy was very quick off the mark to stop planes from China but it did no good

I hope so

We have horses and have to go to them twice a day so I am a bit concerned what would happen.

Not sure our yard owner would be willing to do everyone’s (there’s about 30 horses at our yard)
