We know Coronavirus can exist up to 3 days on surfaces. But the fresh bread counters in shops such as Lidl,Coop, Morrisons, Asda still leave their produce open for the the general public to touch.
Time to cover up these items with wrappers or a glass panel.

I thought the same the other day when shopping.

PointlessAddict · 09/03/2020 23:59

I agree these things should all be individually wrapped or cease production. I love Lidl’s pretzels but won’t be buying them until all this is over.

Tolleshunt · 10/03/2020 00:01

I never buy these products at any time, as I have a horror of them being coughed and sneezed over in general .

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 00:04

Bagettes too.
Also concerned over fruit

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 00:11

Market food stalls, pick and mix sweets, salad bars at Pizza Hut, wedding buffets etc. You will have to give them all a miss for a while if you think like that.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 00:12

You can (and should) wash fruit so no worries there.

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 00:24

But without soap will it kill the virus

PointlessAddict · 10/03/2020 00:25

Much as I hate the waste I am going to stick with prepackaged foods for now.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 00:32

Well technically the virus could be on the outer packaging of anything prepackaged so where do you draw the line?

Pixxie7 · 10/03/2020 00:51

Totally agree sparklingbrook but don’t forget the people do the picking.

Humina · 10/03/2020 01:02

I've seen too many children poking at those things to ever touch them. Especially the cookies. Shock

EngagedAgain · 10/03/2020 01:18

I never buy unwrapped bread and pastries.

YourWinter · 10/03/2020 01:21

I agree, I work in a supermarket and hate the way loose bread is displayed to be exhaled over, coughed over, poked and squeezed by countless filthy hands. At least fruit and veg can (and should) be washed, though I don't imagine anyone does more than rinse it. You can't wash bread.

OneHanded · 10/03/2020 01:47

Oh who cares, my roll was delicious earlier

ArthurMorgan · 10/03/2020 07:38

After working in several supermarkets I've come to the conclusion that these things are grim all year round, not just when coronovirus is about..

PointlessAddict · 10/03/2020 07:40

Well technically the virus could be on the outer packaging of anything prepackaged so where do you draw the line?

At least you can wash your hands after opening the package though and the food inside should be fine.

Namechangexyz1 · 10/03/2020 07:56

Shock horror regarding unwrapped bread.

How about your mobile phone

I wouldn’t touch them at any time, sneezed and poked over by the world and his dog.

ElderAve · 10/03/2020 08:14

Soap doesn't kill anything, it's the action of washing that removes it and washes it down the drain.

Let's not have this be an excuse to add even more packaging to the supply chain.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 08:15

Is this why everyone is suddenly making their own bread?

Confused
