MrsSiriusBlack1 · 09/03/2020 11:20

Why?Confused do u live in a virus hotspot? Have underlying health issues? Elderly?

Lifesabeach86 · 09/03/2020 11:21

Why wouldnt you?! Are you also going to avoid door handles, shopping trolleys and stair rails? Are you in a town with many cases?

SpencerReidsMistress · 09/03/2020 11:24

You'll be fine. (unless you're going to some back alley dentist) :) good luck, dentists creep me out. I go but ergh

Lindy2 · 09/03/2020 11:26

A dentist's room is probably one of the cleanest places you could be.

Unless you suspect your dentist has Corona virus then I really can't see why you wouldn't go. Are you not going out anywhere?

bengalcat · 09/03/2020 11:27

Yes of course . Dentists generally/always wear masks and gloves .

Dusty01 · 09/03/2020 11:28

We're all due to go the dentist and I'm not booking appointments until the CV has blown over. It's not an emergency for any of us to go - just a check up.

The idea of having my mouth wide open - inviting germs into the place you most do not want them - seems like madness at this particular time.

I went to the optician last week and he was nervous. Like the dentist different people are streaming in each day. It's like going to the GP at the moment. I just wouldn't unless is was 100% necessary.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/03/2020 11:30

Huh? I went last week, regular check up. Didn’t occur to me not to go.

viccat · 09/03/2020 11:32

I think the risk is very small at the moment, just don't touch your face/mouth after until you've got home and washed your hands.

I understand your thinking though - I'm due an eye test and have decided not to have one for now.

implantsandaDyson · 09/03/2020 11:35

I'm going to the dentist next week, I have an overdue check up appt and a bit of a niggley tooth so if everything changes I would like my teeth in as good as a condition as possible incase the dentist is closed down for a long period of time or I cant get to appts.
I've also just booked an an opticians appt for my 9 year old. I think her prescription has changed and her current glasses aren't the best for her, again I'd like it dealt with while everything is open and going on as normally as possible. Eyes and teeth are health issues and part of my and the kids healthcare is keeping on top of them just incase any of us get ill further down the line.

Sockwomble · 09/03/2020 11:38

I"m getting my appointments in whilst the virus has less of a hold. I have booked slightly early for my 2 yearly eye check as I will probably need a new prescription and would rather get it sorted now.

BreakfastAtLitanies · 09/03/2020 12:25

Unless your appointment is in the centre of Wuhan China, I don't see why you would cancel.

Skyejuly · 09/03/2020 12:36

I went to my app. Have had bad tooth ache before. Was the worst I've ever been through.

Thought my check up was a low risk and better than missing a filling or something.

showmewhatyougot · 09/03/2020 12:46

Really?

Babdoc · 09/03/2020 12:50

OP, the dentist is more at risk than you are! All their equipment is sterilised between patients or single use, and the dentist will be wearing disposable gloves and a visor.
Your biggest risk will be the door handle on the way in.

Honeybee85 · 09/03/2020 13:01

I think dentists are very aware of the risks and keep their practices and materials clean now even more then they did before! I would be worried more to take the train, and I live in a high risk area where I don’t think twice to use public transportation now Smile

Pilot12 · 10/03/2020 03:00

I went to the dentist today. I was the only person in the waiting area (normally it's busy), I got seen bang on time (unheard of) and the Receptionist was answering the phone and offering appointments for today (normally you have to wait two weeks unless it's an emergency appointment).

It was definitely quieter but that meant I got better service than usual and obviously the surgery is properly cleaned daily and the dentist wore gloves etc so I'd say go.

Heatherjayne1972 · 10/03/2020 06:18

Yes. It’s probably the cleanest place to be
