My work are waiting for government to issue advise before actually acting on anything so despite being surrounded by people coming and going from long, America, Italy we are all expected to be in the office

At what point is it sensible for pregnant women to be working from home where possible?

Title should read ‘pregnant women’ obviously

I didn't think there was any evidence to show pregnant women were are higher risk.

It might make sense to start with those who are - over 60s, those with pre-existing conditions (primarily cardiac and lung conditions and cancer, plus some other immune conditions)

The babies apparently aren’t at any higher risk but they are at higher risk of catching any virus (why they get the flu jab) and they also can’t take ibuprofen to help with symptoms if they did get it.

Well, from what I've read, based on the very limited information they have, there doesn't appear to be a higher risk to the baby of women who catch it in the third trimester. They don't know the effects on babies whose mothers catch it in earlier stages of pregnancy because those babies haven't been born yet.

I'm 12 weeks and limiting my exposure as much as possible, currently off work with hyperemesis but when I do go back (part-time), I don't have the option to work from home. Which makes me nervous!

I think the immune system of pregnant women is supposed to be a bit weaker, plus if you are very pregnant you might have slightly smaller lung capacity due to baby taking up space.

Personally if my job allowed me to work from home I would (mainly as I travel on the tube every day so good chance of catching it there) but sadly they don't. I'm just washing my hands as soon as I get to the office/as soon as I get home, using hand gel in between and trying v hard not to touch my face (it's so hard!).

I didn't think you could take ibuprofen for respiratory illnesses?

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 09/03/2020 11:44

You can take paracetamol though, I don't think the lack of ibuprofen is a big deal.

I'm 30 weeks and would happily work from home, but I also have a 2 year old so unless they were kept at home too (which would result in me getting almost no work done), I'm not sure it would help much from an isolation point of view!

I am. I'm only 7 weeks and we just don't have any information on the potential effects on the unborn baby. I really don't want to risk it and I can work from home. Plus I have terrible morning sickness so I don't think I could even if I wanted to.
